The South Passage
Aw… look at those two angsting lovers! Once again we spoil our female readership with a bit of antagonistic “I want you so bad, I just can’t say it” romance. Only, our Leia is a bit cruder and closer to Carrie Fisher than the Princess in the films. I also hate it whenever I talk bad about someone they just happen to be walking past my office. You realize that it’s hard not to talk bad about people at my office, right?
Don’t forget, Smoking Jawa has invited you to enter the Design a Milk Carton contest. Fabulous prizes could be yours!
There are a number of new Milk Cartons from T. Gatto. He has also set up a FaceBook page for the Milk Cartons. Head on over and “Like” it! T. deserves much praise for his creative energies! I can’t thank him enough for being our #1 fan!
Blimey – T.Gatto’s gone into overdrive 🙂
Great strip today, Chewie looks pretty chuffed.
Thanks for not suing me over the shamelessly stolen Crumb logo.
HA! George would have to sue me first 🙂
Chewies lucky day! B)
Watched an episode of Pokemon today. They where at some sort of milk bar. I know the blue stuff in their glasses are supposed to be water, but I think you can figure out what I instantly thought the moment I saw them…
Daggnabit, Rod! Now you’ve made me go so far I’m asociating stuff with this!
Lol, Careful what you wish Leia. You’d never get that smell out of your hair… 🙂
T. Gatto – you’re like a machine, man! Crankin’ out the milk cartons like there’s no tomorrow!
But, uh, where are the high heels for the Tusken Raider? Are those coming in the future?
I’m working on a good set of pumps for the Tuskin Raider and the Rodians.
Maybe I’m just jealous that I can’t find a good, affordable pair in my own size ;).
I will also have some non BMS cartons posted soon; Sesame Street; Citrus Web Comic; Dr Doom, Indiana Jones; Jason and Freddy; and Star Trek the Animated Series to name a few that are in the works.
Anyone who plays Flames or War, Star Wars Miniatures Battles, or any table top war-games, might also like the dozens of WWII (Stalingrad and European) buildings, or the Star Wars Backdrops I have to post.
I really need to see the Sun Sometimes, is it still yellow?
You didn’t know? T. The sun is about to go supernova and has expanded to swallow up Mercury and Venus. We only have a few months left to live. So hurry up with the Tanya the Tauntaun carton, will ya? 😉
I think it’s still yellow. I’ve been working on unpacking and settling into my new home and cleaning out the old apartment that I haven’t seen the sun much, either. You might want to ask around. I may not be your best resource. : D
Love it!!!
chwbcc;
Just for reference, I like your KT better.
Y’know how when an original creator of a franchise dies, survivors tend to rip off said franchise and redo it in their idea;sometimes improving, sometimes making it worse. Do you think when Lucas dies, someone will go back and make the Star Wars movies edgier and grittier, in a noir sort of way? This line could replace the original. You guys could write the remake. OK maybe I’m going overboard, but, who’s with me? Let’s see Star Wars (including the “lesser trilogy”) be remade to today’s standards!
Maybe… trouble is, more often than the not, the remakes end up sucking. But then sometimes you get something really special too. I hear True Grit is good.
Good point though. Eventually Star Wars will become public domain and there will be all manner of remakes. But it will be toward the end of our lifetimes as I’m sure, just like Disney, LucasFilm will fight to extend existing copyright law.
There aren’t already all manner of remakes? 🙂
That’s actually something I can see Hollywood of the future doing and it’s kind of horrifying. I’m not a fan of endlessly remaking everything every 20 years. Why not re-release the classics into cinemas for limited runs?
I just hope this 3D craze fizzles out.
I need 4D with scratch and sniff cards.
You mean 5d. 4d is just 3d with time. So, normal life for us, minus smells.
Or in Spiderman’s case, remake after only 10 years from the first movie. And the third movie was, like what, three years ago?
Thinking about it, maybe “today’s standards” is a poor choice of words, considering many of the mainstream movies and stories that are out these days.
Remaking Star Wars Original Trilogy to fit modern tastes would be like re-painting the Mona Lisa, pointless. To say a modern audience cannot accomodate something created in a different era and appreciate it through the mental framework of how it would have been received at the time of it’s creation is a discredit to the intelligence of the audience. I think we have to hold people to a higher level, not modify existing work to fit within a lazy perspective. But that’s just my opinion, no disrespect intended. And I think 3D, like CGI, or motion controlled and stop motion photography is simply a tool for visual storytelling that can be used to create incredibly compelling work as long as the tool is the means to an end (furthering a story) and not the end in itself. As always, it comes down to quality writing, and quality performance, however that performance is gathered or created, as long as furthering the story, and creating deep and compelling characters and performances trumps all other considerations. All visual storytelling technologies must be deployed to move the story forward, not just to look shiny on screen.
Love what you said, Shawn! But I’m not sure about 3D right now. 3D is about crap swooping over the audience and for me, that takes me out of the pictures rather than pulls me in, because I feel like I’ve been transplanted to a theme park. If they figure out some way of 3D working non-intrusively and non-gratuitously then maybe I’ll re-assess.
I dunno; Avatar worked for me. I really felt like I was there. In that case, it did in fact pull me in. When 3D is done correctly, then, and only then, does it boost the immersion for the viewer.
But then again, I could be really gullible.
I hear you Rod, right now good 3D films are about as hard to come by as a glass of water on Tatooine. In fact, for me, the only 2 that used 3D to immersively tell a story as opposed to using a story to show some 3D was Avatar and Tron Legacy. And with Avatar, while I appreciate the movie, and enjoyed it, it skates on thin ice as far as I’m concerned in regard to it basically being Dances With Wolves on an alien planet. Nuff said there, I’m just stoked for Battlefield Los Angeles now!
“3D is about crap swooping over the audience and for me, that takes me out of the pictures rather than pulls me in, because I feel like I’ve been transplanted to a theme park”
Is that the fault of the tool or the wielder of the tool? 🙂
If Ridley Scott can be excited about 3D, then I can hold out hope that there might be 3D that adds to the story.
If you didn’t see him talking about Prometheus at ComiCon, you need to do yourself a favor and pull it up on YouTube!
I don’t have a great amount of faith in Ridley Scott, but I do in Peter Jackson. Both are using 3D. These 3D movies have not yet come out (at the time of writing).
Thanks Rod;
I went from 3 to 21 Face-book fans in 2 days.
You have the King Midas touch, or something.
I want your marketing manager
Did Leia swallow her cigaret ?
Either that, or its on the floor. The reader gets to decide for themselves. It’s like Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
HA! HAHA! Oh, man. I’m using that as a new gravatar. Seriously.
Chewie is a happy puppy – I mean Wookie…
🙂
