Lando can’t win
Just for those that aren’t aware, the actor who played Lobot was John Hollis, who also appeared in British sci-fi and spy-fi such as Doctor Who (the Mutants, with Garrick Hagon who played Biggs Darklighter in Star Wars), Blake’s 7 and The Avengers. Although about the only thing he shares in common with Patrick Stewart is being bald, I just couldn’t help but see him through BMS Vader’s simple eyes. See his previous appearances in Blue Milk Special. 🙂
Celebration VI, the annual Star Wars convention held in Orlando, Florida that celebrates the universe that is Star Wars, is coming up next month. The theme for this year is Return of the Jedi and I’m sure the attendance will be phenomenal. I expect when Celebration VII rolls around next year, BMS will be in the final phase, parodying Return of the Jedi. For those that have never been, imagine how many cosplayers you will see when this single event, supported by LucasFilm, pulls together the various Star Wars costuming clubs from all over the country, and no doubt the world. It will be epic!
Although Blue Milk Special has never been officially represented at the show, fans have made sure to get the word out there about this silly little fan comic, handing out free BMS promo cards and recommending the site. Leanne and I don’t have too many of the promo cards left, but we plan to ship a good portion to our loyal supporters, De Jawa Vu and Blackhole Stormtrooper. If you are planning to go, then please spread the word to your fellow Star Wars convention goers that this fan parody webcomic might be worth their time! We greatly appreciate your support! 🙂 The Forciness is with you!
Re: today’s strip… I’m not the only one to make the rather lame and superficial connection between Lobot and Picard/Locutus of Borg, am I? 🙂 Hope you enjoy!
I plan to be at CVI, but not in costume as much as I was at CV. But I’ll be spreading the BMS word all the same. =)
Lobot should be fine, as long as Vader does not want him to wear the costume in private.
As for the voting strip;
How many different directions could the punch line have gone it?
– But I don’t even have a mother.
– I tried that but I fell off the repulsor lift.
– But my mother WAS a vaperator.
– That will cost you extra.
LOVE IT!
X D Love it.
Terrific.
The next one puts me in mind of the infamous ‘goldenrod’ trading card 🙂
It was just the hip piece of his costume that came unglued… but yes, that trading card gets a laugh every time! 😉
I’m fed up of all these jokes about white people not being able to tell black people apart. I can do that no problem so just cut it out…
…And for the record he was in Action Jackson
This isn’t a racist gag, I think the punchline makes that clear. Actually, the inspiration for this one comes from my own blurring of Carl Weathers and Billy Dee Williams when I was kid. I never saw the Rocky films and still haven’t, so my only exposure to Weathers was Predator. But the joke here is that they are deliberately screwing with Lando. If you can’t find the humor in that, particularly the punchline, which confuses the actor John Hollis with Patrick Stewart, then there may be no hope for you. :-/
The first time an actor was mixed up in this strip was waaaaaaay back in Episode IV, when the guy laying out the plan to destroy the Death Star was mistaken for Obi Kenobi, and as I recall, Rod, you actually went back and tinkered with his look some, but the joke stood.
Next, of course, was Lobot. Both white.
Now there is a long time fan! I had forgotten about that myself! Oh dear! I hope we aren’t over milking that joke! 😉
His best work was in Pulp Fiction! 😉
LOL! That’s the spirit!
I used to get Appolo Creed mixed up with Lando ALL THE TIME as well as a id ^_^
He WAS Harvey Dent in the Tim Burton Batman movie
Yep. A minor role though. He had a lot more to do in Star Wars, and other than that I haven’t caught him in any other movies. Plus, not growing up in the USA, I am not familiar with the Colt .45 commercials or even what the heck that is! 🙂
You really need to watch one on Youtube and parody it.
At lease do a shameless pinup with a blue milk bottle or something.
It was suggested that I give him a Colt 45 beer as a gift when I met him this year.
It would have either been the funniest in-joke ever, or a “Oh, very clever – I see what you’re doing there. No one’s ever done THAT before” situation.
Shoulda handed him the Colt .45 gun, that would have gotten a response for sure. 😉
“Gee why hasn’t John White posted to any comics, or forums, in a LONG time?”
Forget the rest of the strip. Lobot dressed as Picard kills me.
I think this is one of the best ones you’ve done. And that is saying a lot cause they are all good. Just Lobot/Picard. Gotta love it.
I suppose being Star Wars characters, they’ve never seen a non-white person before – except in other films
😀
Crap. I genuinely made that mistake too. I only realized I was wrong… now. *facepalm*
Well it’s kinda hard to show true skin color when you’re dressed like a drooling pig and a giant fish having a really bad hair day.
