Droid hunt…
Poor Chewie. Now you know why he was so hell bent on finding C3PO. Notice the background though? I guess Boba Fett wasn’t the only one to track the Falcon to Bespin…
Leanne and I will be at Otakon on Saturday. We won’t have a table, as this is our first time attending the show and we will just be walking the Hall, checking things out. If you think you recognize us, don’t be shy to say hello. We might have some manga work with us and you can get yourself a sneak preview.

I always loved how Iggy was sitting in the background during this scene – and then I got a bigger laugh when I saw his head being used as optics behind Wuher’s bar.
Hmm, in the EU, there was a volume of short stories about the bounty hunters.
The story on this particular droid (IG88?) laid out how, yes, it did track Han quite successfully, but was dispatched and trashed by Boba Fett before the Falcon arrived. IIRC.
Meh 😉
Poor droid… LOL. Once again, we see that there is nothing the EU has not yet explained away. <-- Why do I hear that in Belloq's voice from Raiders of the Lost Ark?
“Star Wars: Tales of the Bounty Hunters” is the compilation, “Therefore I Am: The Tale of IG-88” is the story by Kevin J. Anderson. That was one of the first SW books I owned, read it so many times that I had to get a new copy a few years ago.
I remember that story from Tales of Bounty Hunters. But in the story, IG-88 ambushed Boba Fett and Slave I in orbit around Tattoine, not Bespin, in an attempt to steal Frozen Han and deliver him to Jabba for the bounty.
I also recall there being some reason why IG-88 was unique and more advanced and suited for bounty hunting than the other IG units (Skynet upgrade?). So no doubt that droid in the background is just a spare.
according to the story, IG-88 was just supposed to the latest and best, but it killed its creator. there were actually 4 of them, all running a copy of the same mind, and they’d share memory regualrly.
hey took over the empires main droid construction facility, and used bountyhunting to hide a larger plot they were working on. one of them tracked Han to Bespin, only to be taken out by Fett.. another one ambushed Fett over tattoine later. IIRC, the third one was taken out by Fett somewhere else. the last one died with the Death Star II.
Just for clarification (since you mentioned Manga);
Is Manga a style of comic art, independent of its origins, or is it limited to Japan (i.e. Japanimation)?
That is, can someone outside of Japan (or at least the Far East) create Manga, or is it then more correctly artwork done in a Manga style only?
This then beggs the question; is all animation (and comic art) from Japan considered Manga, or are their stylistic attributes to consider as well?
Oh, and what’s with the big eyes, and technicolored hair?
Someone please enlighten me on this topic.
I’m sure I could Google it, but I would probably get 100 varied answers, and this is more interesting anyway.
Anyone can create art in the manga style (I should add that there is a variety of stylistic differences, even though on the surface it can look fairly uniform to the untrained eye). As the style originates from Japan there are probably purists, so how that work is labeled is up in the air. One term is OEL Manga (Original English Language Manga). So, by definition, that is what Leanne and I are currently working on. Manga is a much more animated and comical style than the current crop of Western “mainstream” comics, which makes it very liberating as a writer.
Our manga project is a background project and not going to debut for a while due to our time limitations. You’ll be seeing our children’s storybook “Hippo” ready to be published in a few months. Our manga project is a big piece of work and will probably debut in Ash Can preview form at NEXT year’s Otakon and Baltimore Comic Cons.
This year Leanne will have a brand new 2012 Sketch Book for sale, both at the show and online (possibly with interior sketch commission as an option).
We may also have some Hippo promo material for sale at BCC as well.
But we will just be walking the floor at tomorrow’s Otakon to scope things out. We’ve heard great things for those who have set up in their artist alley.
Ah, so it seems that IG88 is infact The Grand Galactic Inquisitor.
“IGNORE ME!”
Nice Venture Bros. reference. 🙂
I’m never going to be able to read this one again without hearing it in that tinny, amplified voice…Which just makes it funnier. 😛
Coincidence! I wasn’t referencing any other comedy. At least not consciously. Leanne and I did watched the first few seasons of Venture Bros. a while back though, so maybe it stuck in the old noggin.
Ah, IG88 is so cute! Yes, I know he probably would not want to hear that.
Heh, I always thought the EU explanation seemed a little ad hoc. I wonder if that droid in the background was ever actually intended to have any relation to IG-88 the bounty hunter as seen earlier, or if it was just a reused prop…
