Among the legions of Star Wars fans Wedge Antilles is not quite on Boba Fett’s level, but like the bounty hunter, the rebel pilot has become a fan favorite despite very little screen time. Honestly, I don’t really understand why. I don’t have a problem with the Wedge we see in the films, but he doesn’t really seem that exceptionally interesting to me. What is interesting, however, is that his expanded universe self can be summed up with the following quote.
“I am Wedge Antilles. I survived the Battle of Yavin. I survived the Battle of Hoth. Hell… Just a couple of weeks ago I blew up the Death Star during the Battle of Endor. The reason I’m still breathing when a lot of other good Rebel pilots aren’t? Maybe it’s because I’m better. Or maybe I’m just lucky.”
―Wedge Antilles (Dark Horse comics version)
Anyway, this strip isn’t just a jab at Wedge, it’s actually setting up next week’s ongoing storyline starring the apparently cocky pilot. But don’t expect things to be easy for Wedge. That wouldn’t be very interesting.
For the next three weeks Blue Milk Special will be updating five times a week + 3 Tarkin flashback strips. That’s 8 strips a week. That means you can check back every day of the week and get more BMS! If you missed it, here’s the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday strips.

I’m struggling to imagine that Scottish actor delivering those lines from the Dark Horse Comic. “Hell… Just a couple of weeks ago…” with a straight face.
He was also in the film ‘Local Hero’ and… I just recently heard Ewan McGreggor say “He’s my uncle. That was the real reason we went to see the film!”
Hey.. wasn’t there an alternate ending panel to this yesterday.. or am I just imagining things? I could have sworn the last panel had Luke in it….
What? Pffssshh! What are you talking about? Seeing things? Come on! Actually, you’re right. I uploaded a ‘working’ version of this strip by accident instead of the finished version which refined the joke to be less overtly negative and more about the characters and their behavior toward one another. The strip is much stronger without Luke and emphasizes Leia’s new habit of smoking like Carrie Fisher, without having to ramble about Wookieepedia like Luke is Brainy Smurf.
LOL love it.
Wedge is awesome because he survived. He’s not a main character so he’s not protected by the need to keep him alive – AND he participated in two Death Star assaults which is a ridiculous feat. He’s just the guy who managed to get through it all through skill alone.
Not only that, but he’s the only person who flew in all three battles in the original trilogy to survive. For a tertiary character, that’s pretty damn good. I’ve always liked him for that alone.
Actually, Wedge is one of my favorite character. I’m reading the EU books and he has his ways of badassery.
Great comic by the way. It really cracks me up! Old SW trilogy is awesome
Wedge may be coming across as a self-centered, egotistic dick…But he really is a good pilot, organized & led the Rogue Squadron.
