Ackbar has his priorities right
So, you might be new to BMS, or returning after a long while, and wondering what’s all this about a wedding? Well, you can click here to find out: It’s a Proposal!
Last Saturday, Leanne and I attended Fredcon at Spotsylvania Towne Center, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It was the first of what we hope will be many more comic conventions in Fredericksburg. In fact, we are delighted to report that Fredcon was the most successful single day we’ve ever had at any comic convention in the 8 year life of Blue Milk Special. Now, I define success at a comic convention by the amount of attention our table attracted, the enthusiasm of the attendees, and of course, the support it generated for the ongoing project.
The make up of the attendees was complimented by the regular mall shoppers, and the fact that entry was free. You simply had to come to the mall to do your shopping and in addition to your usual stores, you had a fantastic gallery of talented artists able to promote their works and expand their audience. It was particularly good for our children’s picture book, Hickory Hippo and the Snow Mystery. We sold more copies of the book in a single day than ever before. People we snapping it up and enchanted by the concept of the snow man who is searching for his missing nose.
I want to say a special thank you to Sam Ellis and the rest of his show organization team for creating this event and providing us the opportunity to be a part of it. Although, like all shows, it was physically very demanding for me with all my nerve pain related problems, it’s the best show we’ve ever had since Heroes Con 2008, and that was before we even created Blue Milk Special.
I also want to say thank you to everyone who came up to our table and listened to me explain what it was that we do. And a special thank you to everyone that chose to part with their hard earned money to purchase Hickory Hippo, BMS prints, buttons, and sketches. And for the first gentleman and his young son who bought a Hickory Hippo book who patiently waited while we sorted out password and connectivity issues with the card payment. We were all good for the rest of the day, but that certainly got us off to a nervous start!
I expect we have a lot of new readers from Virginia as of this last weekend, one even came down from Pennyslvania for the show. Also, thanks to our friends Wes and Dawn who had to brave some crazy traffic on I-95, and for Marc and Kevin for joining us for dinner after the show. Now I’ll just jump in my Bacta Tank and recover so that hopefully we can do this again in VA Comic Con, Richmond, VA on Oct 29-30.
