Arcade
I’m old enough to remember the Star Wars arcade game that appears on the monitor in today’s BMS strip. The primitive Vector-based art still (somehow) looks futuristic even today. I admit, I wasn’t old enough to play any kind of arcade or computer game when this one originally came out. But I’m sure you can find emulators out there in case you feel the urge to blow up some lineart TIE Fighters. Amazingly, today you can play a very realistic game simulating the Trench Run thanks to a new iPhone App. Technology, we’ve come so far… Next they’ll be building real life Death Stars! Oh wait! Anti gravity needs to be invented / discovered first.
German girl tastes Star Wars mini-figures
If you haven’t already seen this bizarre video clip on You Tube then you might get a kick out of it. It’s from the German game show Wetten Dass?
Also please don’t forget to vote for Blue Milk Special on TopWebComics!

Nice, I loved the old games. I had that for my Atari 2600. You really do get stuff form all around the Star Wars Culture.
The first time I ever saw Space Invaders in an arcade in Sligo around 1979, it blew my mind. Ran back to the campsite to grab pen and paper… I was desperate to come up with some sort of stand-in paper version. Very frustrating! I didn’t have endless supplies of 10p coins! ‘Battleships’ (on paper) had to suffice.
that girl was just brilliant. I saw the show that Saturday. With the third one she was a little to over confident.
Pity (or good??), the children’s bet doesn’t take part in the ‘bet of the day’ tele vote…
Hi Ereglam,
Leanne and I ended up watching several clips of Wetten Dass? (hope I have the correct spelling) on YouTube as a result of this clip. Coincidentally, we both plan to learn German, so the fact we came across this show was of particular interest to us. We saw one clip with Jackie Chan smashing concrete plates without breaking an egg held in his fist. It looks like a lot of fun.
Hi Rod,
well, it seems to get more difficult to find decent bets.
I’ve been watching the show most of times soon after the first show was aired in 1981.
One of the more spectacular bets back then was some Swiss betting on standing a regular lorry (HGV) on water glasses under the tires without breaking them. They managed!
I think I remember Jackie being on show. Not sure though…
Hee hee! I love it! Office shenanigans on the Death Star! All those terminals and computers? Come on! You know *somebody* was goofing off at one time or another. On a big ol’ space station like that? Please!
And yay for lots of Tarkin action! X )
Geez, there it goes. Guess there had to come a german name for one of these imperials one day or another. XD
By the way: your spelling is correct, Admin. ; )
keep up the good work ^^v
Actually, the name Steiner was inspired by the “Hitler hates…” YouTube phenomenon which re-subtitle clips from the excellent German film, Der Untergang. One of the best scenes involves Hitler’s reaction to General Steiner’s defenses crumbling. Since every Youtube clip tends to use this same scene, no matter the subtitles, Steiner’s name is always part of the sentence that sets Hitler off in a tirade. So, whenever I think of these fascistic authoritarian officer types in Star Wars, I hear those words in my head. “Mein Fuhrer…. Steiner….” Then, when I was writing this strip it just made me laugh to name the Imperial Fleet trooper Steiner. It’s something of an injoke for myself and Leanne. But hey, there’s General “Jan” Dodonna… that’s Dutch. There’s Commander “Willard” which is at least an Earth name. Heck, there’s even “Luke”. So Steiner isn’t too out of place. But yeah, ultimately the German authoritarian / villain stereotype is at play here.
I have a few in my own adaptation. I.e; 1970’s Warlord comic style evil Nazi Imperials who actually drool!
Ha ha classic!
can someone please explain what happened in the video on on youtube!?
X-Wing may be one of the greatest video games ever made. I need to find another copy of it. The trench run alone in that game is just amazing.
Why is there no Android version of the Trench Run game? Hello! DROID!
“Uhm, our new ships are of Romulan make… sir”
xD
I played all those games – both versions {sit-down & stand-up} versions of Star Wars. . . Empire Strikes Back. . . & the somewhat-lacklustre {in comparison, anyway} Return of the Jedi
