Podcast Episode 2
Blue Milk Special is now listed on iTunes! The podcast, that is. Quite proud of ourselves for receiving their approval, but even more important is that those of you who have iTunes accounts give us a good Customer Rating (BMS is free, but iTunes is technically a store). Although Blue Milk Special is, at its heart, a project that Leanne and I have been publishing for several years, readers like yourself have helped and supported us along the way — to the point that we probably would have thrown in the towel without you guys! So, if your day is slow and you have nothing better to do, head over to iTunes, check out our listing and leave your thoughts (hopefully positive!).
Blue Milk Special Podcast Episode 2!
Released last Friday night in a mad post Thanksgiving Day rush, the second episode of the Blue Milk Special Podcast was recorded on Wednesday 21st and covers news about the Star Wars VII writers. The focus of Episode 1 and 2 has been to catch up with the typhoon of news about LucasFilm’s sale to Disney and the bulk of the Star Wars VII news that swiftly followed. This has been the source of a rather large Star Wars news section in the first two podcasts, but should allow us to focus future episodes on specific themes and topics. One of the more enjoyable subjects we’ve discussed, has been the Star Wars Blu-Ray deleted scenes. You can hear Leanne and I enhance one of those scenes in the latest episode.
In episode 3 we will talk about how we make Blue Milk Special the webcomic. Please leave a comment, or email us your questions on that topic, or anything else you would like us to discuss.
Keep scrolling, because I have more to talk about…

Thanks for scrolling down. Okay, check this out…
This is a pinup I made to celebrate one of my favorite periods of the Blue Milk Special comic. Now, you can save it to your hard drive, and even print it if you want… but if you would like a nice high quality, high resolution print, to put on your wall, keep reading.
A month ago I shared this pinup privately with our Blue Milk Special Facebook Group. Not the Blue Milk Special Facebook Fan Page, but the Group. There’s a difference. The Group is small, consisting of about 150 or so fans who interact a lot more than the fan page could allow. I also like to spoil them with a few things now and then, like the above pinup. I have more planned. But, if you’re a diehard BMSer, then you might enjoy the Facebook Group. I often consult the Group and test BMS material on them. It’s more intimate and friendly than the casual nature of the fan page. Future BMS pinups will celebrate other scenes and storyarcs and will debut on the Facebook Group.
So, some of you might be wondering… how can I get an actual print of this! Or indeed, our original BMS group pinup?
Leanne and I have both decided that we will no longer offer the prints for sale at shows. We’ve never offered them for sale online. Previously, along with sketches at shows, prints have been a way to help pay for our table and convention expenses. But in an effort to be a cleaner fan project (and poorer), we wont sell them any longer. I have recently sent a few off as thank yous to some of our hard working, long time supporters. But here’s how you can get one of the remaining copies of the two Blue Milk Special prints…
METHOD #1: One way, is that I will throw in a BMS print for free as a thank you to anyone who commissions more than one sketchcard. Leanne currently only accepts commissions for sketchcards if you have purchased an Artbook or a Sketchbook. So, basically, I’m offering a free bonus for anyone who liked their sketchcard so much that they are kind enough to commission Leanne for another. Email her privately for such a request. This offer is while supplies last. Email me if you already commissioned more than one card and I’ll take care of it, but be proactive about it, because I have a lot on my plate and I’m horribly unorganized.
METHOD #2: Action figure trade.
Okay, so I was on ebay and bidding on a Fixer and Camie Comic 2 pack (the Celebration V exclusive) and I got sniped in the last 15 seconds of the auction! I love the Deleted Scenes and have wanted these for a long time but never gotten around to it. So, I had placed a safety bid several hours before it ended, mostly because I have a habit of forgetting the end time — even when I promise myself I wont! In the last 23 seconds, I was still the only bid, but I wanted to be safe, so I placed a second bid, triple the starting bid. Then a couple seconds later I got the dreaded “YOU ARE NO LONGER THE HIGHEST BIDDER ON THIS ITEM!!!!” I don’t think it included the exclamation marks, but that’s how I read it. I couldn’t type fast enough to try to outbid the sniper and I lost.
Not the first time it happened, and I usually bid at the last few seconds myself, but wow! Very unforcey. So, I was pretty pissed off, and still am, but I’ve decided to make an offer. First off though, if anyone is willing to hook me up with a few Star Wars figures, primarily from the Original Trilogy, email me. Otherwise, here’s my offer. I will TRADE a brand new Blue Milk Special pinup for a figure that is on my want list. I pay for packing and shipping of the print, you pay for packing and shipping of the figure.
Here’s my list… Refresh often, as it might grow as I get new ideas, and subtract as I complete the collection. I will consider buying figures from you, but I’m looking for buddy deals here and friendship. I ain’t rich.
WANT LIST (I’ll refine this later in the day when I get time)
Loose figures welcome as I’ll be displaying them. No Power of the Force, please! Not a fan of their simple muscular sculpts.
Ralph MacQuarrie 30th Anniversay Concept Figures
Cantina aliens
Rebels from A New Hope and Return of the Jedi
Jawa droids (R5, WED, Insect head, Power Droid, etc…)
Obscure Imperial support crew, technicians, etc
Wedge Antilles and Rogue Squadron characters
Jabba’s Palace aliens (you know, they really should make a Declan Jabba!)
She hasn’t moved on. She’s just keeping her options open. π
Reference the strip; The truth hurts doesn’t it Leia?
The print has my attention, but nothing beats knowing the seeded family secrets behind Porkinβs mom. π
– Was Delcan Jaba the father?
– Is Grammel a long lost brother?
– Why did Salacious Crumb pay Dengar to take her out quietly?
– Will I stop asking stupid questions? (probably not)
– This makes me want to burst into song “Oh Leia can’t you see, your just not the girl for me. I’m in love with Porkinβs mom”.
REFRAIM “Porkins Mom has got it going on…”
I think Porkins origin could be deduced from the behind the scenes of this, obviously Cannon, video.

I love Swine Trek!
Not to mention the disney-castle at the end. And I’ve always been amazed how Anthony Daniels can tapdance like that in his suit. that thing’s tighter than a storm trooper’s armor!
Love seeing the Stormtrooper with the stars around his head. I’m assuming it’s the trooper that bonks his head on the partially open door?
Correct!
In reference to the toys you seek…have you tried looking on brianstoys.com? They got alot of cool SW toys plus other stuff…good luck on finding those ones.
Love the pinup! Yay for seeing Tarkin again!!
Do I need to buy another book to get a sketch card, or can I just buy the sketch card (if I already bought a book)?
If you already bought one book and sketchcard the floodgate is open!
I Spend my last 2 days reading all comic strips… in my work (upps! dont say that to my boss) they were amazing…. I want to get the sketchcard and everything.
I enjoyed the Podcast today very much whilst at my desk doing the boring stuff that I do! My boss sits 3 feet from my elbow – so it was an added secret, guilty pleasure!
You three are very funny. It also means I don’t have to waste time that I don’t have anyway searching for Star Wars news π
I do believe there was only 1 awkward sounding bit of dead air in this episode.
Keep up the great work!
John
Glad we helped wile away your afternoon. Sorry about the “dead air” you keep mentioning. Though, we’re not trying to be Entertainment Tonight you know! I think conversations with the odd pause for thought are just the right kind of casual for what we want. Maybe the polish of the opening music and linking sound bytes makes it sound like we should be more professional? π
Nah, it’s great Rod. It was only one gap! Progress right?
“Easy to criticise, hard to do.” I for one have never DONE that.
Oh, as to your last point/ You’re being sarcastic/self-deprecating – but yes!
No, I seriously think the music and linking sounds adds class to the podcast. π
Yes it does.
I wonder if anyone appreciates that you don’t just go on there and chat?
Obviously, there’s post-production work which must use use those secret 26th and 27th hours of the day that haven’t been used up by BMS comic production; but there’s also Pre-production!
– Keeping up-to-date on SW news
– Thinking – thinking – thinking… all day long about the ‘cast.
– Outlining the topics for discussion and informing the contributors
– Arranging it with Kevin and Leanne
– getting the gear set-up and checked.
Bravo!
Thanks, man! Yes, it’s a bit of work. Kevin asked me yesterday morning if we were going to record episode 3 on Monday night (as in last night) and I said, no I need a break. I never intended to make the podcast weekly, but the first couple needed to follow on from each other promptly due to the need to get up to date on all the news and not overwhelm one single show with nothing but serious news talk.
However, I’m happy to take a break this week. Hopefully we’ll record on a weekend next time so I have more spare time in a single day to get the editing done. If I edit on weeknights, it takes more nights to complete and the relevance of the news starts to slip. Oh my god, John! It’s so complicated! So many decisions and all this planning! Haha! π
Looking forward to episode 3 though, because we can talk a little bit about what Star Wars is to each of us. A nice personal episode, I hope. After that, we’d like to have a new guest each episode as a sort of rotating 4th cast member. Perhaps you could be one of our first. Do you have Skype and at least 50 minutes to spare over the weekend? Time zones permitting.
We also need an Expanded Universe EXPERT to guest on an episode and address what the Star Wars news means to them and what sort of stories they’d like to see future films tackle (whether it will really happen or not).
Woah! I’d be honoured Rod!
I’m excited now π
I recently used Skype for the first time and it was terrific! I’m so far behind technologically. Next I’m going to try this ‘tape’ format that Vader kept going on about in ’77.
See ya
John
To your: The Best Expanded Universe Fiction is…? I voted ‘other’, because my favorites are (usually) a tie between Vision if the Future and Survivor’s Quest. But I also love the Thrawn Trilogy, the X-wing books (Starfighters of Adumar!), the Republic Commando series, Tales, and Shadows and it’s just too hard to pick just one. If Survivor’s Quest had been on the list I would have voted for it. π
I also voted other because it’s hard to decide, but also because I haven’t read many Eu novels/stories, and the ones I’ve studied up on on wookieepedia has made me hate most of the post-Young Jedi Knights EU. those parts of the eu just makes everything that has ever happened in star wars completely in vain. that’s why I only enjoy Eu content from either before YJK, during the movie saga, or during the old(er) republic (the old republic is 20k years old, it’s impossible to call it jus tone specific era, but what we mostly call the old republic is either stories during the developement of the original sith lords in the rep’s youth, or during it’s more “sharkfin” era 4k – 2k before the PT, like the mando wars, kotor or tor). I haven’t read the rep commando series, only WP summaries, but I’ve played through the entire game at least twice, and I love everything kyle katarn, as long as it’s before the YJK, and kotor is one of my absolute fondest pc game memories, and I’ve enjoyed most of the main story of the cgi cw (it’s filler stories can become a bit stretched-out or dull, but the more important story-lines they split up in parts tends to be exciting, even if you can guess what’s gonna happen). So if I could vote for several candidates, it would be stuff listed within these four sw-genres :3
I think it’s a shame YJK and the Kyle Katarn stories weren’t completely made at the same time, he would have OWNED during the YJK stories, since he’s technically a teacher at the Yavin 4 academy during that time. now the only way to see the YJK and JK characters togheter is by reading those horrible yuuzahn vong or legacy stories, ugh…
Watching Empire Strikes Back as a kid, at this point I was really wondering why Luke wasn’t doing anything. Don’t just stand there looking confused, letting some Imperial officer use Leia as a shield. Get out there with your lightsaber and blaster, shootin’, deflecting, using the Force, and save your friends!
I love the first panel, with Leia sacrificing her cigarette to warn Luke. Heartbreaking stuff!
Yeah Phil! Those things are expensive, what with Space Tax and Space Duty etc.
And ohhhh… so lovely.
[no I don’t smoke]
