Command Room Extra
Wouldn’t you love to have been in the film The Empire Strikes Back and say “that’s the back of my head”? I actually feel sorry for the guy. Leia seems determined to direct the battle even if the whole room collapses on her, an action usually reserved for Han Solo. It isn’t until the Imperial Troops enter the base that she starts to give in. I guess, if you were really into the whole Han and Leia thing, then this would be one of those key moments.
We have a few strips lined up, which means a twice weekly schedule for the next couple of weeks. Consider it part of the “convention high”. The adrenaline is slow to fade after a great show. Two weekends from now Leanne and I will be in Richmond for the Virginia Comic Con. We got rid of half the limited edition BMS prints in Baltimore, so this is another chance for fans in our region to pick one up. Numbers 20 and up.
Just wanted to talk about a couple of things. 1.) Leanne is posting photos of her sketches from Baltimore Comic Con. You can see them by following her on Twitter or by checking the Blue Milk Special Facebook page. Some great BMS sketches among them.
2.) The ad space on the site is really paying off. We look set to make $100 this month, which is phenomenal and will help maintain the project. As you know, it’s not just the site, but the cons too, that suck up a ton of money. Keep in mind, Baltimore cost us $600 (although it would have been more had it not been a local show). The website repair costs were $600. The hosting and domain are trivial compared to that, but this isn’t a business and if it was we would always be running at a loss. What you guys are seeing with BMS is a fan project which we spend our personal time and money on. To be able to lessen that burden makes the actual creative part of the project THAT much more enjoyable. Baltimore, for the first time ever, was the first Comic Con that did not hurt us financially. We’re still thrilled about that. So, we hope if you do see an advertisement you are interested in, you will check it out via our site. It all helps.
3.) Glad you guys like BMS. I don’t say it often enough, but thank you for reading, commenting and supporting us. Often I will look back at the strips, and while some still make me laugh, others make me cringe and think how forgiving and tolerant our readership has thus far been. So, thanks for sharing in Leanne’s and my Star Wars diversion. We really appreciate the feedback and making so many new friends thanks to Blue Milk Special.
4.) A variant of the prints will be available to purchase via the website in a couple of weeks time (after Virginia Comic Con). We will throw in a free copy of both glossy BMS promo cards with each purchase while our supplies last.
5.) There’s a hurricane coming our way. Her name is Irene. Leanne and I live in beautiful Southern Maryland. We’re not sure how it will impact our area. I expect people south of us and on the coast will bear the worst of it. But, pray that the Forciness is with us. What a week, what with the DC Earthquake a few days ago. I swear it was Vader’s wrath when he was mistakenly given a frapp instead of a latte.
Both Leanne and Rod will be attending Virginia Comic Con, a single day show celebrating comics. It will be held in Crowne Plaza West in Richmond, VA on SATURDAY September 3, 10a-4p.
Admission is $6 bucks.
Free for kids under 5 and persons with a valid military ID.
Ooh! First comment! (I am easily excited).
Okay, so I am rrrrrrrreally liking BMS and telling my friends to read it because it is liek Star Wars–only so much better. Anyway, the reason for commenting is that at least George didn’t give all of the expendable personnel red shirts. :-p
REQUEST: More Mc Lucas! XD
Instead he gave us Stormtroopers. Basically the same thing. Plus if you want Rebel redshirts just look at the guys in the orange jumpsuits. I think Lucas moral is just stay on the Falcon because nothing bad ever happens on the Falcon. Especially if you are Han getting Leia alone in a GIANT rock. 😉
Again, an awesome strip, and hilarious enough with just the first panel – but then you spoil us and give us three more again 😉
Happy to hear the ads are working out for you – I just clicked on another one, so by my reckoning you owe me about six cents now (that is how this works, isn’t it?)
I’m worried about all of the people I know (both IRL and online) on the east coast. For heaven’s sake, STAY SAFE OUT THERE. If evacuation warnings are issued, you and Leanne get your happy asses out of there! We’ve got to keep the Blue Milk Dairy running safely, you know.
Love the look of the control room!
We should be fine in our area, when it comes to evacuations. The most likely worst cases for us are a tree falling on our house, prolonged power outages, or a tornado. I’d choose power outage if I had a choice, naturally. Going to think about getting a cooler box and keeping a bag of ice in the freezer in case we lose power. Then I can transfer our perishables into the cooler box along with the ice in the hopes of not losing all our food. Will be buying some bread, tuna, peanut butter, pop tarts, etc… Who knows, maybe we will luck out and we won’t lose power, but it sounds like this is the big one. :-/
Very smart. And wear your galoshes and carry an umbrella and don’t take nickels from strangers. X )
I click on the ads anyway, whether I dig it or not. It’s the least I can do.
A lot of people in our field don’t oblige ads and although I understand why they feel that way, that’s what finances these things until merchandising can kick in. At least for those who legally and morally CAN do merchandising, of course. In your case, I’ll click all the ads I can and buy a comic in the theoretically near future.
Beans of coolness that there are now two updates a week. I’ll keep that in mind and look forward to each episode.
Thanks, dude. Leanne and I are currently considering a way of implementing some sort of Webcomics promotional segment of BMS for which we would need a graphic banner for our side bars. Basically, I’m thinking we will do a review / shout out to webcomics we like as an ongoing feature. Dimensions would be 160 px wide and and either 200 px tall, or 600 px, depending on how we decide to implement it.
I might feel bad for the guy but at least he can tell his grandkids he was in Star Wars.
Hope you guys are safe with Hurricane Irene. I’m up in Anne Arundel County and people are freaking out over the whole thing. I feel bad for all the people in OC who were evacuated. 🙁
I emailed you guys the Biggs sketch this morning! 😀 He fits oh so well on my desk.
Love what you did with my background (I almost didn’t recognize it)!
Neat that the alliance had time to redecorate the command center, even in the midst of an imperial invasion. 😉
I’m working on a few more cartons, but baby and kids must take center stage.
May the Forciness be with you.
So, I stumbled on this comic earlier this week and have just flown through all the comics, this stuff is great! Next time I see these movies, I’m going to be expecting a coffee vader and leia with an attitude. Can’t wait until the rest of the strips are up! Now if only dash rendar was in this… Seriously though, love this comic
That guy really did get shafted. “Come on, it’s too dangerous to stay here!” “Oh, all right. Hey you, stay here and die for the cause. Bye!” Then again, someone’s got to do it. 🙂
Great strip today (as always).
May the forciness be with you with the coming huricane, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
I just burned through the archives. Absolutely love it!!! Can’t wait for more.
I hate to whine, but RSS subscription appears broken. I get an XML parsing error.
Wish I knew how to fix it. Truth is, I do not really even understand RSS. I guess I’m living in the past. Even when I look up RSS to find out about it, the description seems too technical. Wiki does anyway. I’d have to ask our web designer friends what the heck is going on. If you can, in a few words, explain what the hell RSS actually is that might help me. I’m thinking its basically just some auto generated headlines and link whenever the site is updated. That’s what I’m thinking. Sad, huh?
BMS thanks for the reply! Never mind, the error was on my end. My firefox was hose up and a restart fixed it. Thanks again!
OMG. I literally just watched Empire Strikes Back for the first time in a while last weekend, and was sitting there with my kid, and we suddenly agreed that Han and Leia were total jerks to that guy. “Don’t worry about me, I’ll just sit here and die.” “Oh look, the tunnel collapsed and you can’t get to your shuttle….here, we’ll go in The Falcon….”shouldn’t you at least shout down the hall to get the OTHER people who can’t get to the shuttle?” “You’ll come back for a droid, but not for people in the control room?” “If they were important, they’d have faces.” These were actually said in my living room
OMG. Thank you so much for moving my misplaced post. You are the best people ever. Srsly. Awesome….and so fast!
I wasn’t able to move it. I had to post your comment myself and changed the username to match yours. Seemed to be the only way I could place it under the correct strip/blog. For some reason its showing me as the author. So, for the record, the post was Labgrrl’s. For anyone that is confused.
Take care. And BACK-UP all of your work someplace safe!
For a second I miss-read #4; figured it said Glossy PORNO Cards…lol
The Forciness will be on you..always…
Wipeable.
