Dash Rendar’s Tale Continues…
Had to come back to squeeze this one in. Really feeling the continuity nightmare that is Shadows of the Empire. Trying to keep the scenes in the right order when there is no single complete version of the story is actually harder than I thought. Originally, this strip was going to happen a little later, but I soon realized we had passed the point it should have taken place. Gah! So, I hope to keep things straight moving forward. One more strip with Dash and Boba to follow (will be uploaded Wednesday May 15th).
I should add that Rendar’s comment about using a hand blaster to defeat the AT-ST boss in the video game was an anecdote given to me by Michael Stipp. There is in fact a rocket pack and a rocket launcher hidden in the room for use against the AT-ST, but they are of no use unless you find them!
He seems like a modest individual.
He should have an Ego battle with Fett.
I love the video game reference! Lots of repetitive crap, especially in those boss levels as you wear down their power level or whatever.
“Haha” indeed, Dash!
Hah, great! I’m always glad to help. 😉
Continuity issues: how to do it right
Dark Helmet What the hell am I looking at? When does this happen in the movie?
Colonel Sandurz: Now. You’re looking at now, sir. Everything that happens now, is happening now.
Dark Helmet: What happened to then?
Colonel Sandurz: We passed then.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now. We’re at now now.
Dark Helmet: Go back to then.
Colonel Sandurz: When?
Dark Helmet: Now.
Colonel Sandurz: Now?
Dark Helmet: Now.
Colonel Sandurz: I can’t.
Dark Helmet: Why?
Colonel Sandurz: We missed it.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now.
Dark Helmet: When will then be now?
Colonel Sandurz: Soon.
Why does he look like Cable from X-Force? =D
Speaking of anecdotes, the entire Shadows of the Empire game sort of reads (given all the inconsistencies with other Shadow material) like a highly embellished first-person account from an unreliable storyteller…
There is a strong resemblance to “Starter’s Tale” from the Star Wars Adventure Journals, where the title character takes down all of the bounty hunters, minus Fett, and escapes from Vader while stealing the shuttle Tydirium. (I would recommend reading the various stories involving the Black Curs if folks get the chance.) To quote one of Starter’s comrades… “It seems obvious that your story has completely divorced itself from any semblance of reality.”
