Death Star Survivors
This week is going to be very Empire-centric with Vader, Taggi and Bast headlining the main continuity and our bonus “flashback” strips featuring Grand Moff Tarkin and Admiral Daala. Check out the first part of the “Tarkin’s Mistress” mini-series below.
Today’s strip indulges our love for background characters at the expense of appealing to the mainstream with the main cast. However, both Taggi and Bast deserve some attention. They did, after all, demonstrate the highest degree of intelligence among the Imperial officers seen in Star Wars. Taggi did not trust a plan to put all the Empire’s eggs in one basket with the Death Star and he spoke out about it (which is what any good officer and expert in such matters should do). Bast not only showed signs of dissent towards Tarkin (see the cut scene with Vader over at Star Wars Cutscenes) but readied Tarkin’s personal escape shuttle during the Death Star attack.
Now, we should say that we love Grand Moff Tarkin and by default, General Motti (the only officer to fanatically support him against the dissenters), but Taggi and Bast did have that whole pragmatic thing going on that bad guys usually lack. According to the Expanded Universe both Taggi and Bast survived the Death Star. Taggi was not aboard at the time of the attack and I forget how and why Bast escaped (but he appears in the Star Wars Holiday Special in a redubbed version of the excised scene from A New Hope). Anyway, you now have the BMS explanation!

Heh…Your avatar pic. Substitute the milk carton for a coffee cup with a Star Trek logo and a straw, then you could snap some pics to fit in here *perfectly*
Then there’s also a few (or more) regular readers here that would want a copy of your pic so they can put the graphic on T-shirts.
Hmmmmm….possible opportunity for Tarkin to make post-Death Star appearances, especially if the “urgent message” was delivered using Tarkin’s shuttle.
I could see him becoming a total malcontent, since if he didn’t die, he’d be unemployed and bitter as hell.
Nope. He’s going to restricted to flashbacks. He will make a contemporary re-appearance in a month or two, however. But I don’t want to give people that long to figure out what we have planned because chances are they’ll get it and spoil the surprise. Ooh I hate being so far ahead. I just want to share share share.
