Evacuate?
Again, our slipper gags might be better appreciated if you are familiar with Peter Cushing’s request to George Lucas that he frame the shots of Tarkin so that his boots go unseen. The reason for this is that the costume department had not done a good job of fitting him with large enough shoes. Cushing was allowed to wear slippers. This is our interpretation of what they may have looked like (unlikely), only our Tarkin ACTUALLY wears slippers. For the first appearance of Tarkin’s slippers, click here.
I have been retroactively tweaking old strips with General Dodonna in them. I was unhappy with the Obi-Wan clone look so went for a closer likeness to Dodonna’s hair and beard style. I also added several brand new strips.
This one fills in a scene that somehow got overlooked, along with a bit of overdue BMS commentary.
Below is a new mini-strip intro to the Rebel briefing room scene. The original briefing room gag about camel toe has been thrown out completely. Note the new look General Dodonna.
And another brand new rebel briefing scene following the last. At last Wedge has some dialogue!
The following revisions feature the changes to General Dodonna who now has an improved likeness. Once on the page, hit refresh to see the changes. If that doesn’t work then hit ctrl+F5 to force a hard refresh of the page in your browser.
Same as before, hit refresh to see the altered Dodonna.
And again below.

I bet when Tarkin felt the station start to blow, he ‘evacuated’ alright.
Nice. Great way to start the week. A bunch of BMS strips. When you’ve talked about doing Splinter Of the Mind’s eye, are you planning on following the whole book, or just Lucas’s idea?
I always wanted slippers like that but my ship has heated floors so now that I have them my feet sweat. Still, they’re nice to have, just in case.
Amazing that nobody has compared you to Lucas for going back and ‘fixing’ previous work!
That last guy stole my comment, it is funny that you like Lucas are doing tweaks. I can’t wait for “Splinter of the Mind’s Eye.” But will we need to read the book, before the strip comes out in order to get the jokes. I for one have never read that book.
You won’t need to read the book, although a familiarity with the spoofed material doesn’t hurt. Basically, Splinter of the Mind’s Eye is riddled with contradictions with some of the worst stemming from the fact that George Lucas had not wholly defined the direction of the intended Trilogy. At the time of commissioning the Splinter of the Mind’s Eye project, it was intended to be the novel from which a low budget sequel to Episode IV would be based. We’re talking very low budget. They didn’t even know if Harrison Ford would return so Han was not in the book. The opening space battle was ultimately cut from the book and rewritten into a space magnetic storm that resulted in Luke and Leia crashing on the mining planet where the story is set. This swampy world was the only location for the entire book, with the exception of a mining town, an Imperial palace and a ruined temple.
Most of the humor that I’ve drawn from the original material comes from the awkwardness of the adventure when attempting to reconcile its differences with the Original Trilogy. There are even lines of dialogue in the book that conflict with scenes and events that occurred in Episode IV.
What I can do is quote and explain the events that are being spoofed from the book, to help reinforce the strips. However, I hope that for those that have not read SOTME the BMS version will provide an entertaining off-shoot adventure that feels somewhat original.
I also wrote an update to our BMS “About” page which discusses some of our future plans.
