Han the Hero
–EDIT BLOG UPDATE 9:30 AM EDT–
I’ve added a brand new voting incentive strip AND a brand new poll. It’s a fun one, suggested by BMSer Frostbite. “If you could own and operate a fully operational Star Wars vehicle, which of the following would you choose?”
As for the poll that just ended… We managed to get over 1300 votes after leaving it up for well over a month. The results are interesting because they suggest the age range of our readership as well as which of the films has the most nostalgic importance.
If anyone is interested, both Leanne and myself saw Star Wars in a theater for the first time in the 90s: the Star Wars Special Edition, or “A New Hope”. It wasn’t our very first time seeing the film. I saw it when it aired on television in the UK when I was about 3 or 4 years old in the early 80s. Leanne saw it on video in her high school years.
BLUE MILK SPECIAL HIATUS UNTIL MAY 4th, 2011
The following bit of news will disappoint many of you, but we have to take an unexpected break from Blue Milk Special, beginning with today’s strip. We won’t be back until May 4th. Yes, we’re taking all of April off in order to focus on the projects that put bread on our table. In the meantime you can perhaps look forward to one or two new incentive strips over the next couple of weeks.
Hope you liked today’s strip. Please let us know in the comment thread.
Oh, and I’m looking for a good site to download anime. If anyone can help then shoot me an email.
MANGA ARTIST NEEDED FOR SPECIAL PROJECT
If you are a manga artist looking for a project, shoot me an email. If you like Record of Lodoss War that would be a bonus. I have a fantasy comic (elves, dark elves, warlocks, undead, barbarians, exiled imperial guards, monsters, romance) that just needs the right enthusiastic and talented artist to collaborate with me and bring it all to life in visual form.
I have written for the 2x Harvey Award winning Mice Templar with Mike Oeming and Bryan Glass, and self published Once Upon a Super Hero my creator-owned book. I also write for the 1980s Animation magazine Cereal:Geek and, of course, produce an ongoing Star Wars parody webcomic with my wife, Leanne Hannah called Blue Milk Special. Leanne has illustrated for Tod Dezago’s Perhapanauts, Casper and the Spectrals, several indie titles as well as working with Rob Zombie on his book, “Whatever Happened to Baron Von Shock?” as editor and illustrator.
I have contacts that can benefit myself and an aspiring artist. My goal is to find an enthusiastic collaborator to visually realize a high fantasy story for our mutual benefit. I am leaning towards either a one-shot sized book (minimum 22 pages) or a single graphic novel which would be self published online and in print. This project would be a great opportunity for an aspiring manga artist to make some good connections… and who knows? Maybe the book might even sell!
I am currently considering a manga style as a way to go. This specific project requires a rather serious style of art (less cartoony). I am still open to more traditional western comic styles as well, so if you’re enthusiastic then try me. However, I have other projects that I may want to develop with other artists with a more fun style too. Basically, if you know anyone who might be interested, let me know.
Love Luke’s reaction.
It’s ok guys, everyone has to look after their responsibilities in life, and supporting an income and taking care of one’s family must come first. A non-profit web-comic, no matter how fun, cannot usurp this requirement. We’ll still be here when you’re both able to come back! 🙂
Poll suggestion: If you could own and operate a fully operational Star Wars vehicle, which of the following would you choose: Landspeeder, X-Wing, Y-Wing, B-Wing, A-Wing, Tie Fighter, Tie Bomber, Tie Interceptor, AT-ST, AT-AT, Twin Pod Cloud Car, T-16 Skyhopper, Snowspeeder, Millennium Falcon, Death Star.
Poll Suggestion # 2 – Which Star Wars Character Name would you most likely name your chid: Luke, Leia, Han, Ben, Anakin, Padme, Wedge, Biggs, Darth, Yoda, Chewbacca, Dia Noga, Walrus Man, Hammerhead
When my son was in pre-school (3 or 4 years old) his teacher had a son named Luke. My son always called him Anakin.
Add Smoking Jawa and Greedo to the names list, too! ; )
Poll Suggestion # 3 – Which Crossover would you most like to see: Star Wars vs. Star Trek (the all time classic!), Star Wars vs. Battlestar Galactica (modern BSG), Star Wars vs. Marvel Universe, Star Wars vs. DC Universe, Star Wars vs. Mortal Kombat, Star Wars vs. Street Fighter, Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars vs. Harry Potter, Star Wars vs. Masters of the Universe, Star Wars vs. G.I. Joe, Star Wars vs. Transformers, Star Wars vs. My Little Pony.
Just between you and me…is that by any chance an April Fool’s joke? Cos you almost had me. If however you are serious, that’s unfortunate, but enjoy your break and I hope you can catch up on other things
I didn’t even consider the April Fool’s angle. I guess I’ll just check back next week to be sure. 😉
While I am disappointed that I won’t be able to see as much BMS for a while, I can’t blame you guys for doing what you need to. Good luck and know that we’ll be waiting in anticipation for your glorious return.
BTW, this is my favorite strip of the Hoth arc so far.
As always AWESOME strip guys. Best of luck for April and dont worry we understand, real-life comes first 🙂
LOL “lukewarm”
“keep him Luke harm” sounds like one of the word doesn’t belong.
…I’m French, I didn’t get the joke 🙁
Lukewarm is an actual English word that describes a temperature that is between cold and warm. It’s like a cup of tea that isn’t quite cold yet, but isn’t hot any longer. It is used here as a play on words, given the “Luke” in the word lukewarm.
That’s why I loaded a few other jokes into this strip, like the corvette crash, Luke smelling bad, and Han boasting to get laid. 😉
Explaining this makes it funnier! Funnier now that is a strange word!
Rod and Leanne, as other’s have said, we will miss you, but things like eating have to come first. Good luck with your paying projects.
The first panel is enough of a stand-alone laff – the rest are merely chocolate frosting.
Awesome – best wishes for your April shenanigans.
Nice!
“Lukewarm”. Hee. X )
Love Luke’s reaction to Han’s tall tale.
If your announcement about the hiatus isn’t an April Fool joke, hooray for projects to complete! Getting artistic work is a lovely thing. When you can get that work, it’s very gratifying. If you can earn a living with that work, so much the better.
“Crashed a corvette” – took me a minute but I got it! 🙂
Good luck on your project!
I hope you guys have a productive April – so productive that5 you can also afford to put some cheese on the table too to go with the bread!
I love the incentive strip – I had a similar themed idea for a bit of fan art for you a while back, but as usual – never got around to it!
I love the lukewarm joke. And while this does seem to have the potential to be an April Fool’s joke, it’s a terrible day to announce a hiatus if it isn’t. 😉
When else would I announce it? 🙂 It’s just that Friday is our regular update day, and this Friday we have to take a break. Last time we took a month off was January last year! 😀 We don’t have any “paying projects” by the way. We have projects that we are trying to pitch or use to get paying work. 🙂
Well, then go knock ’em dead!
Also, there’s that baseball thing. 😉
Incentive strip FTW!!
The corvette line is great! I can remember being worried about Mark Hammil’s car crash delaying the sequel.
You’re all heart, Robb! 😉
That corvette reference is incredibly clever! You two really know your stuff, and I respect your for that! I know both Hamill and Lucas got into serious car crashes, but who crashed a corvette?
And as for the necessary hiatus, I hope you didn’t wait too long to take it.
One of our equally witty commenters actually stole our thunder by making the corvette reference in a comment thread a while back. But I wasn’t going to pass it up. 🙂
Yes, we just have to prioritize some of Leanne’s opportunities right now. There’s only so much I can do artistically without Leanne before it starts to look tired and crappy. I think we’ve all been spoiled with the amount of entirely original panels lately. 🙂 Don’t forget to check out the new voting incentive strip. It’s up now!
First thing I did after reading today’s strip was vote on for BMS on TWC, so I’m one step ahead of you ;=. The strip is great and it looks like it could develop into an interesting subplot. I love interesting subplots :D.
Also, for a polling question, maybe something about people’s opinions/predictions regarding the re-release of the entire saga in 3D starting next February? They’re starting with TPM… I bet someone will, or will at least think about, screaming obscenities in the theatre when Jar Jar appears on the screen in 3D. That could be it: How do you think people will react when Jar Jar appears in 3D in theatres next February?
Also, #18!!!!!!! WIN!!!!!
People will probably be trying to throttle the 3D Jar-Jar
Ahhh! This is excellent!!! I was really hoping there would be a strip with Luke in the healing tank. I especially like the part about crashing the ‘vette! Good one!
Rod and Leanne – you’ve left us on a high note today! Truly great strip. “Trying to remove the smell” – brilliant!
Oh, sure, I get it. The first 500 strips are free just to get us hooked, then you cut us off cold turkey just cuz you aren’t getting your money. Do you stake out streetcorners near schools so you can push deathsticks to younglings, too?
Don’t mind me, I’m not really bitter, just anticipating the DTs when I don’t get a BMS fix for a whole month…
Oh, forgot to say, today’s strip and the new incentive strip are both LOL funny. Maybe they’ll tide me over for the next month.
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH! I can go a month without say television, books, or cookies, but BMS!
I’ll have to take up a hobby like Milk Carton Construction, or reading web comics and making annoying comments, or something.
If this is an April Fools Joke then wouldn’t something more humane like a bag of burning Wampa Poo in my porch suffice?
As for the strip today it ROCKS, but the incentive “Return of Biggs” was AWESOME!
Maybe Skorr The Great can show up in a future incentive?
Don’t you mean The Awesome Bounty Hunter Also Known as Skorr?
Lukewarm… I see what you did there.
Must be about 5 jokes in there! Hey. anyone ever notice the med droid’s 1950s ‘skeleton microphone’ muzzle?
Yay Biggs v. Wampa!
Incentive strip is great. How will Biggs escape?
“Moustache powerrrrrrr…… ACTIVATE!”
Couple subtle jokes with a big payoff at the end. Excellent!
Good plan for Rod & Leanne to come back to BMS on May 4th, just in time for “May the 4th be with you!”
