It’s not easy being elite
The return of TK 8008 and Shep (or TR 2101).
Royal Guards, or Imperial Guards (the exact name is not settled), number between fifty to tens of thousands (the exact number is not known). They are like the United States Secret Service (although whether they use tax payers funds for hookers is not known). They go everywhere with the Emperor, guarding him while he sits on his throne, and possibly his toilet too. I mean, my research states they accompany him to his bedchambers, which sounds a little intrusive (or suggestive, the exact reason is unknown).
Basically, very little is known with any certainty about these guys. Why, for example, do their robes only have one arm opening in Return of the Jedi? The real reason is to make the cloak hang in such a way to look good on camera. I don’t want to get into that too much here, as we will poke fun at it soon enough.
As TK 8008 acknowleges in this strip, these guys apparently train at the Imperial Royal Guard Academy on Yinchorr. They’re selected from various Imperial Military. You don’t choose to be a Imperial Royal Guard, you are chosen! They learn martial arts, which is ironic, considering the performance of which has to be impossible in their robes. Indeed, even basic vision seems extremely limited by the narrow eye slit. Everything about Imperial Royal Guards is designed to LOOK cool ahead of being functional!
Thanks to the 501st Legion’s TR 2101 “Shep” for providing part of my inspiration for our parody of the Imperial Royal Guards.
One, but not the only, reason why last month’s BMS updates were less frequent can finally be explained in more detail. Below is some of Leanne Hannah’s Transformers art, featured on USA Today’s website AND also in McDonald’s Happy Meals. That’s right, stop by McDonalds and the insert that goes with the kid’s toy has Leanne’s Transformers art on it! Roll out!
We have Awesome Con DC coming up on May 29 – 31, 2015 in Washington, DC. Blue Milk Special (Rod and Leanne) will be at table SW7 (like Star Wars Episode VII) in the Star Wars section which is easy to find. Just walk in through the main entrance into the exhibit hall and SMACK BAM, all the Star Wars folks, including us, are on the right! This is our BEST EVER location at a show, so COME AND SEE US, damn it! If you’re at the show and you miss us then you only have yourself to blame! Want a commission? Start thinking about it now and email us. Getting commissions done in advance saves time and ensure they are ready for you to pick up at the event.
When you look THAT good, you don’t have to pay for hookers with anyone’s credits.
It’s the same problem many imperial troops have, Luke said it in IV, you really can’t see in those things.
A lot of the visuals must be projected inside the helmet with the rest of the data.
To be honest, a greek hoplites field of vision wasn’t much better (neither was that of many medieval knights), and they trained in martial arts.
But, I have to agree, a lot of the IG outfit must be because it looks cool. It is off course his honour guard.
Yeah, I have that insert (thanks in part to my kids diet), some day I will have to get it signed and hang it up. 🙂
As for the guards, “style over substance!”
Style over substance ? I thought we were talking about the imperial guards not Boba Fett…..
Good point…
Oops, gotta go to McDonalds, then! Do they do the boys and girls versions? They better not give me a hard time for ordering a girls happy meal!
I think it is just the boys Happy Meals.
Hey Rod, I was thinking about getting a copy of Hickory Hippo for my buddy’s kids (they’re 4 and 3) and was wondering if ordering from your Hickory Hippo site would benefit you guys more than getting it through Amazon? (Did you know there’s a used copy on Amazon listed at $999.11 plus shipping? WTF?)
Well, if you do purchase from Amazon, the only real benefit to us would be if you leave a good review. Otherwise, yes… we will make more money off it if you buy it directly from us via the Hickory Hippo website.
And a $999 used copy?! That’s ridiculous!
Er,in what way was it…. “used”?
I’m happy to see the return of TK8008, but I have to admit I’m a little disappointed in the lack of a cape. He is Vader’s bestie after all. 😉
