Agony Pilots
We are pleased to announced that Neil Baker’s Turning to the Dork Side film entry in the Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge is now available online. Many have submitted their films already and competition is fierce. All are deserving of recognition. However, Neil Baker is an animator and cartoonist whose sense of humor and style gels very much with our own here at BMS studios. We loved his animated film and are sure you will too. š A lot of work and genius! As Neil has always been a supporter of BMS and many of our fans have discovered Turning to the Dork Side through this webcomic, we encourage you to consider voting for Neil’s entry in this big fancy competition.
You can view Turning to the Dork Side here, and vote for it, here. The voting option for Turning to the Dork Side is near the bottom of the voting list.
Our Big Announcement!
We (Rod and Leanne Hannah) will be at Baltimore Comic Con (August) and Virginia Comic Con (September). See below:
Our big show of the year is also our first show of the year. We have been living like old hermits on the Dune Sea, hiding away from the comics community for nearly a year. I think our last show was New York late last year. Anyway, Baltimore Comic Con is semi-local for us and it’s a relatively large 2 day show. It takes place at the The Baltimore Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday, August 20 & 21, 2011. Show hours are: Saturday 10-6, and Sunday 10-5. Stan Lee will be there!
Two-Day Admission (8/20-8/21): $30.00
Saturday Admission (8/20): $20.00
Sunday Admission (8/21): $15.00
STAN LEE VIP Admission: $195.00
As always, kids 10 and under get in FREE!
Although Virginia Comic Con has yet to update their site with their upcoming show schedule, both Leanne and Rod will be attending the single day show in September. It will be held in Crowne Plaza West in Richmond, VA on SATURDAY September 3, 10a-4p.
Admission is $6 bucks.
Free for kids under 5 and persons with a valid military ID.
Great big brilliant strip today! I love the way she obsessively gets a dig in at Solo at the end of every sentence. Surprised you Didn’t even push it further! Ha ha. Met him in a garbage masher – priceless!
Incidentally Rod – any idea who the actor is that I was trying to recall in my strip yesterday?
Hey, thanks muchly for the kind plug – it’s actually a mixture of excitement and faint embarrassment, as this animation doesn’t really reflect what I can do, but I’ll take it for now š
To paraphrase Colm Meany in The Commitments, “Dave Filoni must be shitting himself”.
BTW – this might be my new favorite strip (to answer your FB question) š
Hehe, great! Went right into my mental list of favorites, now that we were talking about it.
In the last panel, the pilot on the right looks like heās looking at Wedgeās Butt, do the Rebels have a āDonāt ask Donāt tellā policy? Never mind I donāt want to know. š
Leia also seems a bit preoccupied, maybe she canāt decide which Comic show to make it to? š
Baltimore seems like a better show, but I’ll probably see you in Richmond, between the two. š
We will see you there!
Gatto, you just made this so much more awesome to me. š There’s definitely a Story there…
Heheh, this was great.
(Any chance of Cliff the Mailman showing up?)
NICE! One of my favorites so far!
I don’t know, meeting guys in garbage mashers has always worked out for me. Wait…
LOL! One of the funnier one! LOL!
This seems to be an all ’round Fav.!
Do you think Leia is fit to command? That issue shows up ALL THE TIME in cinema.
This reminds me of a childhood memory watching the movie Street Fighter with Raul Julia. Guile is briefing his troops, talking about a boat “with the latest stealth technology”, and how it will single-handedly breach Bison’s defenses. A gy asks a question: “One boat against everything he’s got?” My sister would chime in with “The ion cannon” response from Leia. The connection between the two scenes was quite uncanny.
Pity I have no plans to attend those conventions. If you two are still in “the business” when I’m able to travel a bit more, I’ll be physically (but still not literally) hooking up with y’all!
Lolz!! I was thinking about that very same scene when I read this!
Really when you watch Street Fighter I don’t see how you CAN’T think of Leia’s briefing!!
You’ve completely skewed the poll now. After this strip, Leia’s sure to get a huge boost in votes.
You,re so right!
It’s still brilliant. You can see how a true comic (if you like) would really work. You can sustain the comedy over many panels – and pages no doubt with plenty of character interplay. The shorter ‘strip’ with a punchline really is a different beast. Great to see these extended versions! Lots of work in this one I’m sure.
Of course, longer isn’t necessarily harder. Wasn’t it George Bernard Shaw who sent a letter: “Sorry for the long letter. I wanted to write a short one but didn’t have time.”
I love this, I know I’m going to find myself laughing every time I see this scene now. It kills me how you always have Leia with a cigarette in hand.
Do you and Leanne ever make it over to the west coast? Like Washington for example? š I actually live in Idaho, but everything cool comes to the big WA.
