Misplaced Trust
Never trust a Kowakian monkey-lizard. Looks like Han, through no skill of his own, has made a clean getaway sans legitimate cargo. Ah well, that’s what he gets for trying to kill two birds with one stone, patrolling the Little Alderaan system and trying to get a little smuggling in on the side at the same time. Next week we wrap things up and prepare for the big launch of Splinter of the Mind’s Eye. Are you psyched for this? I bet most of you could care less, huh? Well, we’re doing SOTME because it deserves to be lampooned… er… celebrated. Besides, don’t you want to see Leia wielding a lightsaber? π
Check out this amazing 3D animated short film starting Han Solo and Chewbacca made by students of Dave School–a digital animation and visual effects school—in Orlando, Florida! We loved it! Great voice acting by John Armstrong who pulls off a believable Harrison Ford likeness. The students captured the spirit of The Original Trilogy perfectly!
BLUE MILK SPECIAL NEEDS YOU!
Our plans to spice up New York Comic Con have been somewhat derailed. The surprise costume I was planning can’t happen until next year, and the idea of having blue milk at the booth to drink is too much lugging and carting material around. We’re looking to do something big though. Something exciting! Something we haven’t quite thought of yet. As we count down the days to NYCC we need to come up with something cool that will make this a memorable and worthy con experience for ourselves and fans.
We’re looking to our readers, particularly those who will be attending the NYCC, for ideas and help.
NYCC 2009 had 77,000 attendees. One thing we’re concerned about is being lost in the sea of tables in Artist Alley, so we’d love to have some costumed fans stop by now and then and help attract people over, or just hand out a few of our promo cards. One of our objectives at the show is to get rid of all our remaining promo cards and increase awareness of the strip. There are still a lot of Star Wars fans that just have no idea about this webcomic. We have about 1800 promo cards to hand out. We’d like to get rid of all of these at the show. At Celebration V Smoking Jawa, Shadow Stormtrooper and their friends were able to hand out masses of these in the morning before the show had even opened. Those long lines of eager con goers need something to read. As a thank you we will do free sketch cards for those that are serious about helping.
Didn’t get a promo card or simply were unable to attend our shows? Email us and we will hook you up. You will have to pay the postage costs, however. We’re just artists, after all.
New to Blue Milk Special? Start reading from the beginning!
Why do people suddenly hate Boba Fett these day? I admit the prequel movies made EVERYTHING about the Holy Trilogy less good, by why all of the sudden Anti-Fett backlash?
Also, I realize this comic is a parody. ^_^
I LOVE this comic! Thanks for making it and updating so regularly!
I think you’ll find that there are about two people that hate Boba Fett (in a love / hate way only, mind you). Chris (of Star Wars Facebook’d fame) and myself. Pretty much everyone else continues to love him as usual. A couple of people reacting to the insane level of worship for this minor character is what you’re basically experiencing here. It’s not a malicious attack on Boba, it’s done in the same nature as the rest of the parody and criticism that Blue Milk Special gives to the entire realm of Star Wars. Boba just isn’t a god, however that is how he is treated by fans and the expanded universe writers. He is shoehorned into bigger roles and portrayed in a way that is actually (when you really step back and look at it) inconsistent with his sneaky, clumsy, and unimpressive performance in TESB and ROTJ. I’m just being objective about this. Doesn’t mean we don’t still love him. I mean, with a costume that awesome, how can you really hate him? π
I’ve been to other places on the interwebs where people seem to not like him and was wondering why, is all.
Also I completely disagree with you about Boba in TESB being unimpressive; he DID track down the Falcon to Cloud City and capture Han, Leia, and Chewbacca. Not even the Empire could do that and that’s why Darth Vader went to Boba in the first place.
I don’t know if we can actually get into it and really discuss here though. I don’t want to take up space! ^_^
The truth is all Boba did was track Han. That’s all. Sure, that was smart, but that is the only CANON example of him doing anything exceptional in the entire trilogy. All the rest is expanded material which stems from enthusiasm towards his costume and mystery. I’m not saying he sucks. Just that the reality is he didn’t do much at all, and yet he has been built up by fandom. That’s why we had the perfect angle for a humorous take on the character that I haven’t seen done before.
I like how you have Boba in your comic! It makes me laugh really hard! I think your Leia is my favorite characterization in BMS, though. ROFLMAO!!
But in terms of what Boba did or didn’t do in Canon, what IS canon is that Boba is the most Ruthless bounty hunter in the galaxy. George said so himself back then and it’s been reinforced these days. It was the Will of the Force that kept Boba from killing Luke and Han, etc. Even Darth Vader and the ENTIRE Imperial navy couldn’t keep them down or kill any of them.
Boba also corralled Luke into the Freezing Chamber.
Are we actually able to carry on this conversation on this page?
Well, it’s a bit removed from discussion of this actual strip, which isn’t really about Boba Fett this time. But you also have to understand that we only count the Original Trilogy as official canon. In that context, everything that came after, from George or by others, is derivative of the source. Like I said, the fact is that within the original trilogy itself, Boba tracks Han and then makes a phone call to Vader. You can’t herald his back and forth laser exchange with Luke as being an example of Boba simply holding back on his apparent (unsupported) awesomeness. That’s just personal opinion. I’m just looking at the factual, visual evidence. Everything that portrays Boba to the level that he has been elevated came AFTER the original trilogy. That’s what makes him so much fum to play with in BMS. π
I also think its a shame that when a couple of people (and believe me, people who aren’t Boba worshipers are in a minority that can be counted on one hand) who are vocal about the down-to-earth reality of the character, as presented in the OT, are seen as being “Boba haters” or as being some kind of movement. I appreciate that people love Boba, but to see just a couple of voices that disagree and get defensive. Trust me, Boba is respected, just on different levels by some people. π
Having rewatched the OT since reading these strips, and without any of the additional commentary/idealizing of others, Boba really doesn’t do much in the movies.
I loved and continue to love the Fett. When you are a kid and you see this guy in the cool armor, busting out flame throwers, a jet pack, guns, etc against everybody, how can you not love that. Once you get past the whole “man that guy has to kick butt” thing though, he shows up a couple times, lounges around, and gets accidentally dumped into the sarlack pitt. Woo.
Ignore the hype and just watch what happens on screen and you will get it.
I just want to make it clear, I’m not a member of any Anti-Boba brigade. That’s for the record. But I can and will find humor in all the characters. Biggs and Boba made it really easy. Carrie Fisher herself added her real life hijinks at the time to our current Leia angle. Vader’s performance in ANH etc… It’s all good! π
Actually, one of the biggest criticisms I hear of the Star Wars movies is that all the really cool characters either die off quickly, or have very short roles. Same goes for Darth Maul, Jango Fett, Aura Sing, and that shapeshifter person who you find out is a shape shifter when she’s killed after ONE SCENE. Seriously, they couldn’t have done something else with that?
Oh, and also TK421, the only storm trooper with a name, who you actually never really see because that was Luke in his armor.
And yes, I am a card carrying member of the Anti-Fett Alliance. π
*facepalm* Totally didn’t see that one coming. X D
So, Greedo’s cousins are the Laurel and Hardy of the bounty hunter set, without the bowler hats and the ties for twiddling.
Well, they aren’t the smartest Rodians in space… let’s leave it at that. ;=
Gettin pumped for some SOTME! (really!) I feel like I should re-read it, but really the coolest thing about the book was the cover…
That is a fact! π
I might even re-read the graphic novel.
Easier to get through, but it does have some weird inconsistencies with the book.
Funny thing is, when our Johnny was only 3 or 4 he ended up loving Boba.
I never encouraged it – he just grew to be his favourite character.. I suspect that Jango in the PT might have sparked a love of Boba. But then again, Jango’s hardly in the PT either!
It has to be the aforementioned Jet pack – and all the gadgets on his suit – as (admittedly) made more obvious by Jango.
I’m a bit biased now myself because Johnny and I actually met him last week! http://tinyurl.com/3yb7t92
And… ‘he’ even signed my childhood comic adaptation of ESB! http://tinyurl.com/35l7nob
“Looks like Han, through no skill of his own, has made a clean getaway”
Are you alluding that Han Solo, like Boba Fett, also gets by on his reputation, and luck, more than any skill or craftiness?
Is nothing sacred to you Satirical Sadists?
If so you really do want to see how many fans you can tick off. π
Next you will try to have us believe that “The Force” is just something Lucas put into the story to get himself out of tight corners without having to think before writing the script. KInd of like a “Shamwow” fix-all for the religion seeker. Now all we need is a Force info-mercial, and we can market it.
A blue Billy Mays a la Obi can do it….”Billy Mays here for The Force….”
Hello!
New to BMS – it’s great!! Love the humour in it!
The cards with Leia and DV drinking coffee – do you still have any and if so, any chance of getting them here in the UK?
Cheers!
Probably not. We have half a box left, but they are something we hand out free at conventions. We don’t have an organized system for mailing them, partially because we have very little spare time to get them to the local post office and postage and all that. If you were standing here in front of me, I’d give you both promo cards right away. :\ Glad you are enjoying BMS, though! Thanks for the kind comment! π
