More to you than money…
…just not much more.
I love how the Han and Leia embrace worked out. Now, onto the Rebel Awards ceremony!
I am considering sinking a few spare hours (which I don’t actually have) into a Star Wars video game. I have very specific requirements. The game needs to be of good quality and from the last 10 years or so AND let me pilot a Y-Wing on at LEAST one mission. I have this urge to pilot a Y-Wing lately. They seem to be the “crappy” ship of the Rebel Alliance. That might explain why we never saw a series of games entitled Y-Wing, or Gold Squadron.

Han got it all figured out: money and sex, dude! xD
about the Star Wars game and the Y-wing thing… Star Wars Battlefront 2 ftw!
Don’t know about the past 10 years, it’s mostly been the prequel trilogy, but X-wing vs TIE fighter had you piloting several different ships from both sides and I believe there was an expansion called Balance of Power in which you could pilot a b-wing.
XvT (and BoP) had X-wing, Y-wing, A-wing, B-wing, z-95, TIE Fighter, TIE bomber, TIE advanced, and TIE interceptor I believe (there was also X-wing and TIE fighter before XvT, it had just a couple ships). Rogue Squad introduced E-wing and several airspeeder crafts.
I remember the Z-95’s… weren’t they from the Han Solo Expanded Universe novelizations that came out around the time of the original trilogy?
Can you play a Y-Wing in any of the Rogue Squadron series? I’d prefer the coolest simulation possible.
Z-95 headhunters were early on in the Star Wars evolution (according to wookieepedia first appearance was in At Star’s End, so yes Han Solo EU – http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Z-95 ). They were primarily a cheap alternative to the x-wing. Yes played Y-wing in Rogue Squad, not as fun as E-wing and cluster missiles though.
I have played through the flight sims (XvT etc), RTS (Rebellion, Force Commander, etc), even Yoda Stories, but my favorites were always the ground combats. Dark Forces serial for FPS and KotOR for RPG. I would still say KotOR was my favorite Star Wars game, I think primarily because it was so self characteristic. It wrote its own story and didn’t simply fall into a backstory for the movies.
I remember enjoying Han Solo: At Star’s End though I never made the time to read the others in the seires. And I’ve never read any of the Lando seires. I suppose I should rectify this omission. Re: the games. I am also interested in playing some of the ground sim games, but I’m just aching to fly a Y-Wing around and see how crappy the craft feels OR what a good pilot can get out of this often ignored craft. I played TIE Fighter back in the mid-90s and Rebel Assault II. I enjoyed TIE Fighter a lot but never got hold of XvT.
So you’d recommend XvT over Rogue Squadron for a good Y-Wing experience, huh? Hmmm… I will look into this.
Well the big difference between the XvT type games and Rogue Squad was that XvT (like X-wing, TIE Fighter, etc) focused on space combat. It is all in space, deep space, quite a ways away from the planet. Rogue Squad was planetary flying, or at least flying against gravity, there was always a down (like land) beneath you. Y-wing handles like an old buick they are bombers not fighters, slower maneuvering, but they hold together well. Just remember to slow down if you want to make a turn in the same solar system. I would say play both… unfortunately last time I tried neither game wanted to run on XP, haven’t tried them yet on 7 (same with Force Commander, Jedi Knights, etc…)
Crap… I doubt they will run on Vista then. Thanks for the advice. I hope I can put it to good use.
I’m not sure of any specific links, but you can find emulators to boot up your computers for retrograde games…Even all the way back to DOS.
wish I’d discovered this site sooner! love the comic! I was gonna chime in that XvT I believe requires a joystick for play, but considering the date it was posted you’ve either found out or lost interest. Gotta love the Y-Wing, deeply unappreciated.
Bah, V-wing, not E-wing… sorry. Although the E-wing was awesome, don’t think it has made it into any of the SW flight sims yet 🙁
I know Force Commander runs on Vista, X-Wing Alliance also ran on XP. At least it use to for me, its so old now the game cant load any level after the 7th level
I played Rogue Squadron on the N64 but somehow my family members got rid of it when I left for college.
Rogue Squadron for N64 had a fun Y-wing. You can only use it on certain missions at least until you complete something that allows you take any ship in any level. I can’t remember what that achievement is anymore it’s been so long since I played that.
Han Solo….my Hero LOL!!
Try playing Rouge Squadran it has missions with Y-wings
You’ll prolly hate this answer, but SWG has a brilliant space combat AI, and the Y wing is the second from bottom tier reb ship, so it’s not too long of space missions to get to fly it.
ok noob momnet but WTF is FTW????? iv seen it everywhere in it’s starting to bug me >;(
FTW = F*** the world!
I’m a year too late, but, ftw is “for the win”.
Doubt you’ll still be checking these comments, but IMO you should definitely check out Battlefront II – it’s one of my all-time favorite games. Mostly ground combat, but there are also some pretty great space battles.
I’d love to check it out. I just need to find the time to be able to play it. :-/ Thanks for the recommendation!
Battlefront II has all you’re looking for, and more.
All else fails theres always Star Wars Battlefront 1. Its incredibly therapeutic to bomb little imperials from the skies… spaceships in a land battle so nice…
Obviously I’m waaaaaay late on this, and the game has been mentioned already, but if you do get the urge again I know Rogue Squadron for the N64 is a good one (in my opinion) it was the first SW game I ever got, and quite possibly what turned me into such a big fan. And you can fly a very wide variety of ships throughout the missions, the Y Wing is essential for multiple missions
If you’re willing to play tabletop games instead of video games, the X-Wing Miniatures game by Fantasy Flight is very good, and gives that “I’m piloting a fighter” feel. And you can get Y-Wings.
