Paws
We just got home from another weekend at Virginia Comic Con. The event was held in Crowne Plaza West in Richmond, VA. Several of our readers found us, among them T. Gatto himself and his entire tribe! We had a great time at the show and saw some amazing costumes. Check out the Star Wars related commissions below. We will post the non-Star Wars commissions on Leanne’s twitter account throughout the week. This is our last show of the year, and our last show for the foreseeable future as we work on our original Manga project to debut next year.
I don’t normally draw, but here’s one I did to keep myself amused. This one is called: Yoda chillin’. –EDIT. It has been pointed out to me, by those more observant than I, that Yoda only has three fingers (two fingers and one thumb). This completely undermines the bull horn gag in this picture and also means the current three Yoda strips are anatomically wrong. You guys have no idea how frustrated Leanne and I were to learn this.
Here’s one Leanne did for our awesome reader, Phil C. He wanted TK-8008 and Vader hanging out and drinking coffee. Thanks for stopping by, Phil!
Deathstar Droid and Mouse Droid, done as a special thank you to one of our biggest supporters, T. Gatto (who made a long trek through blinding blizzards with his family to see us!).
An amazing General Grievous costume that towered over everyone at the show!
This is the last day of voting for this month at TopWebComics.com. Tomorrow there will be yet another new voting incentive strip as a thank you for those that continue to help us maintain our excellent rank inside the Top 30.
I love the Yoda and Mouse Droid pictures. Glad to hear you had a good time.
Let the wookiee win.
Ha, ha, I agree.
Good strip Rod – and a VERY good drawing by you! I’m so impressed. You have an excellent mentor I reckon.
Well done T and family!
Yay! Glad y’all had fun! The opportunity for fun is definitely at conventions. I emphasize “opportunity” heavily, because at NYCC, I’m sure there was much more for me to explore and interact with, but there just didn’t seem to be enough time for everything. Granted I was only there for two days, and both were only about 2/3 to 1/2 of the available amount of hours, but still.
As for the comic, I’d say Chewie is REALLY stepping on toes here, but if Han isn’t going to move in, Chewie might as well. So does this make Leia a furry then?
Get your paws off me, you dirty ape! [/CharltonHestonvoice]
Chewie takes his scene stealing to the next step! Has that been his plan the whole time? What a devious wookie!
Drawing’s great – thanks! It’s going up on my wall.
The snow’s crazy, right! I’m back in Michigan. No snow here.
Yep. This little Chewie scene stealing subplot has been planned and scripted since the very beginning. The only other MAJOR subplot that I’ve been sitting on since the beginning is something new and different with Ackbar mid-way into ROTJ if we ever make it that far!
Thanks so much for all your support, Phil. Hope those signatures on the promo cards didn’t smear!
Signatures are fine so far. I kept a couple and I’ll make sure those at least don’t get smeared!
Well, why get a makeover all those strips back? Chewie’s lookin’ all smooth and Wookiee-licious, so why not get his flirt on?
Sounds like a good time at the con, and the sketches are fantastic. Now I wish I’d planned my trip to Richmond for this past weekend instead of the one before. 🙂
Rod, I just realized you kind of look like Dean Cain. Also, Deathstar Droid and Mouse Droid=AWESOME. And I love the yoda pic. Especially since I haven’t gotten to see a ton of him yet.
That’s a huge compliment and I’m pretty sure incredibly wrong. Maybe that photo just caught me at a good moment? Glad you like the Deathstar and Mouse droids. Had an idea for an ongoing gag between the two of them but it came to me AFTER we’d blown up the Deathstar. Alas.
Well, you do have a Death Star Mark II coming up…
Well, hey I don’t know, something just struck me as Dean Cain-ey
Perhaps they were blown out into space – intact?
Oh, and I sent you an email with a question…I don’t know if you inbox spammed me. And I don’t mean it threw mystery meat at me ;=
Yeah, I got the email, Zayne. I was at the convention all weekend and didn’t have access to a laptop or computer to reply properly.
Sure, that’s what I figured but my email always spams my brother, so you never know!
I love your sketch of Yoda rocking out! Rod, you need to show us more of your work. And the addition of the fire hydrant with the Death Star and MSE droids is just great, very clever.
Nice to see Darth has a pet, pets are calming, as long as he doesn’t make a mess of his slippers..
This strip works so much better with Chewy in it! “Chewbacca, What a Wookieeeeee!”
The Con was a perfect small con for my taste, I’d never bring little kids to a great big one.
As for the drive, I should have paid better attention to the weather, and left early enough to avoid old man winter’s first appearance this year.
I usually go to Cons for the small press, and collectables, both of which were good, more so for the talented small press on hand.
The costume contest was fun also, my poor kids were scared to death of the awesome wolf-man.
I wish I could post some of the prints I picked up from the numerous cool artists on hand, but they might not like having their work re-posted.
As for seeing the Hannah’s it was great, they are even cooler in person, and in My house even the little ones know all about Blue Milk.
My only complaint was with the hotel rooms and amenities, which were often of the “Out of Order” variety; the sauna; room thermostat; shower head; coffee pot; and room lights all had issues (stay down the street if you can).
I’ll be back someday, when I can afford another mini vacation. 🙂
Sorry to hear about the hotel, but even more glad we saved some money and stayed with our friend Matt Wieringo. Also, terribly sorry about not being John White and disappointing the kids. Just shows what an impact Star Wars Age 9 has on kids! Great meeting you, Tom. And looking forward to reading those rules and kicking Leanne’s ass at Dejarik. *cough*
They were more mad about not getting to see Stonehenge, as they do not know the difference between England and Ireland. 😉
I thought it was funny though.
But Tom… one important note… Virginia Comic Con was in Richmond Virginia!
Oh, come on! we all know Virginia is in Michigan!
They were excited to hear about the Civil War history nearby.
But still, no Stonehenge. 😉
Ah… maybe you confused them by telling them I was from England.
Woah! I’m flattered! Flattery is good by the way.
If John White had shown up I would have been more than a bit surprised.
Note to John White, my kids wanted to know where you were, when I said we were going to see the Star Wars Comic People, they like SWage9, and BMS, about the same.
Oh don’t worry about my feelings, Tom. I know they were wanting an Irish accent.
I did notice that Noah liked the Luke and Leia fight from Splinter.
That and he likes Capt Grammel.
Wait, you named one of your kids after me (my name is Noah)? ;=
Tom, if you ever bring the family to Ireland we’ll definitely meet up!
I want a copy of that yoda pic you did!!!!!!
Nah… you’re just sayin’ that. 🙂
Hey! Love the drawings ans stuff! But a reminder, I’m pretty sure Yoda only has 3 fingers total, not 4. But I suppose you can change anything in Star wars you want to make it funny. Yoda looks awesome by the way. I wasn’t sure id get used to him looking that different, but the comedy changed that and by the time the second strip with Yoda came out I just considered him super awesome and perfect! Keep up the good work! Yoda is all that I looked forward to!
You’re right about the fingers, but I was so absorbed in the awesomeness that is “Yoda Chillin'” that I didn’t even notice that.
Yeah but he can’t rock out, with the bull horns, without at least 4 fingers.
Ronnie James Dio would be proud. 😉
You guys have no idea how bummed Leanne and I were to realize this. You have NO idea. Really frustrated. 🙁
Don’t feel bad. I think it’s an awesome picture and it’s not like it’s making fans abandon BMS. And why is this upsetting to Leanne? Again, look at how many fans have commented on how much they like it. 🙂
Thanks, Zayne. Still, its embarrassing and frustrating and I’ll notice it from now and forever.
Man, we are having a rough week. Leanne’s job from hell and my chronic sinusitis. Tonight will most likely be a beer night for Leanne and early night for me. Friday’s strip may be delayed as a consequence.
It’ll fit nicely! Don’t worry, I think a lot of us think it’s cool! If you really desire to make it fit you could say he got a robotic finger of something. 😛
The strip is great! Thank you so much for you’re hard work!
i have yet to find anyone with the correct number of fingers in this strip, so what about yoda having one more while everyone else has one less?
Well, when you’re having a rough day, just look at your incredibly low number on TopWebComics (22!) or read FMLs–that always makes me feel better (which is kind of sadistic now that I think of it…) Just remember, when life gives you lemons, eat them! There’s starving kids in Africa! 😀
P.S. The smiley is not there to say that I’m glad kids are starving–because I’m not.
And Rod, if you give me your blessing, I will gladly spare you the trouble of editing the 10 panels with Yoda for a clean, 3-finger look so you can repost them.
Thanks Zayne, for the offer. That awesome of you! But, I think I’ll take care of it though (maybe this weekend). The files are huge PSDs and all the characters and FX are on separate layers, so it can become complicated for the uninitiated. uninitiated terms of doing things the way I do them.
If you’d like I’ll give you a sample pic for a panel, you know with a “before and after” kind of thing. It’s the least I could do for a guy who’s created a comic strip that trumps all newspaper strips. 🙂
It’s okay, Zayne. I have no doubt you could do it. But I want to mess with it myself when I get the chance this weekend. Thank so much though!
All right. Well I look forward to the redesign.
I just realized that after you’ve comethrough half of TESB you’ve done half the OT and things will go from more BMS to less BMS with each strip afterwards 🙁
If you make it through the OT, which i have very little doubt you won’t, I’d love of you to make a PT too, even if it’s just to to make overly-fun of all the “flaws” in the PT. I think even the pt-haters would love to see you mess up jar jar or qui-gon. I’m pretty darn sure, that you could turn it from “boring ridicolous” to “funny ridicolous”, and the critics would finally have a PT they could actually like. I’m sure that altough most ppl won’t admit it, they want to see you do this! Comon Hannas, show ol’ Lucas how the pt should’ve been made! 😀
I second all that. I’d love to see the PT in BMS form. I’m one of the few people who actually liked it besides George Lucas himself. Now before anyone shoots me, I’d like to clarify that I love all Star Wars because I really like seeing all the side stories and plot lines and such. I have a more relaxed view of Star Wars. And don’t we all to some extent? Isn’t that why we love Blue Milk Special?
That’s what happens when you give Chewie lines: If you give a man an inch he’ll take and mile: if you give a Wookiee a line, he’ll take Leia!
