Concentraaaaate!
Whenever I see this scene, I can’t help but feel Artoo Detoo is responsible for distracting Luke. Here you get the merciless BMS take on the “concentraaaaaaaaaate!” scene. We had a lot of fun working on next week’s strip, which is available to preview at TopWebComics.com. We hope you enjoy! And don’t forget to keep voting. We are amazed at how well we’re doing thanks to everyone’s support.
The big announcement for the day is that the comments feature has been restored. No, we don’t have a six season deal and a movie in the works. *pout* For better, or for worse, I am opening Blue Milk Special back up to our visitors to leave comments. While Facebook has been a nice backup for connecting with readers, I think it is important to maintain a more direct sense of community here on the site. Comments will continue to be moderated before approval. So, you are all very welcome to begin commenting again on this and subsequent strips.
One suggestion I have for discussion is what our readers would like to see Blue Milk Special do in the near future? Not necessarily relating to plot, but what more could we do with Blue Milk Special as a project?
I have closed the previous poll, which asked “Excluding Boba Fett, who is your favorite bounty hunter?” The new poll, “Did Luke wash while on Dagobah?” is now open for voting and voter feedback.
IG-88 was the clear winner. Interestingly, however, Greedo’s Cousins came close to stealing second place from Bossk. Looks like people love lizards in spacesuits just a little more than the green-skinned Tetsu clan. Greedo took 4th place, followed by Dengar (I always hear “Bandages”, by Hot Hot Heat, whenever I think of that guy), and Suck-Ass… sorry… Zuckass. So mature. Although 4-LOM does not get enough love, he did receive 30 votes, and even with the possibility of vote cheating, it seems a few of you do care about that insect-android. Skorr did not score very well, despite his name. Hopefully you guys remember who he is/was from his one and only appearance in BMS, click here.
There are a few things that have stood out to me in my 33 years of existence on this amazing rock in space. My incredible best friend and wife, Leanne. Brian Cox’s amazing “Wonders” science documentaries and the score by Sheridan Tongue. The film Inception and its Hans Zimmer score. Irvin Kerschner’s The Empire Strikes Back and John Williams incredible score. Helden by Apocalyptica. Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. The Japanese Sentai parody “Akibarangers”. Etc etc… Everyone that knows me personally, knows I’m picky about what I like. But another of those things that works so well for me is Phil Custodio’s brilliant web comic “Living Room Wars“.
It simply gets better and better. While I have trouble navigating the site, in terms of keeping my place and catching up, it is always worth the effort. Phil has a really witty story that has been going from strength to strength. Starting with Luke Skywalker at Hoth base, Phil had a stroke of inspiration when he decided to include his pet cats into the photo comic. Just like Vader’s coffee mug in BMS, which just works and works and doesn’t seem to get old, Phil’s pet cats consistently win a smile when they stare at Luke like they are ready to pounce. Phil keeps the story fresh by constantly expanding and including more and more elements from other sci-fi films and toy lines. I have pimped Living Room Wars out before, but catching a few more pages of the story last week prompted me to give Phil another nod.
It is hard to get noticed and find readers when your project of love is a webcomic. BMS has been doing this for over 3 years, and admittedly, people come to us first and foremost because they already like Star Wars. In this sense, Blue Milk Special shares something in common with Phil’s Living Room Wars. Leanne and I put in what time we can make available from our often complicated lives. Phil, like us, loves playing with these universes we’ve all come to love, but in doing so he is delightfully original. The price we pay for building a story upon the back of a love like classic Star Wars is that we can’t make a living from it; that is one perk that original webcomics have the potential to achieve. So I encourage readers to leave comments and encouragement for guys like Phil. If you like what you see, then let the creator know. We NEED to hear it.
I can’t force any of you to check out Living Room Wars, I’m not Obi-Wan Kenobi after all. All I can do is tell you that I love it. You have to make the choice whether YOU will make the time to discover its charm too. It is a work of genius.
Unbearably awesome strip today, and the voting incentive is too damned funny – great stuff all round.
Nice shout out for Phil’s site – I often forget to check in and then have to catch up with two or three editions – but it’s worth it – and now that it’s gone all meta I’m loving it even more.
As for future BMS ideas, I realize you are both super busy, but I would love to see short spin-off tales (8 panels or so) featuring background characters. Much like the ‘Tales from’ book series, for example, we could be privvy to whatever Snaggletooth is up to while Ponda’s getting his arm cut off in the background, or some jawa action at the droid sale – I just love background character stuff. Am I being too self-indulgent? Hell yes!
Glad to see the comments are still open!!
I’d like to see BMS tie up some of the loose ends from the prequals that didn’t get resolved in the Holy Trilligy.
Maybe you two can go back and do a parady of all the Star Wars Special Editions by going back to some of your old strips and changing them the way George changed Star Wars, dig a vous?
Also, I’d like to see the way Leanne does the art! ^_^
Ah well, at least they can just bring on another muppet…
Oo, muppet substitutions! Now that has some comedic potential. Gonzo as Yoda, perhaps? Or Miss Piggy as Leia – BMS Leia, of course, complete with the cigarette!
Rod & Leann, you have my permission to either run with this or ignore it as you see fit.
😉
Yay, comments are open again! Now I just wish I had something important to say… Oh yeah how about…
YOU GUYS ROCK!
And I alway sthought it was R2’s fault too… But what do you thing he said that spoils his concentration? Maybe a knock knock joke?
Yay! Comments!
Well, I’d like to see a crossover with The Big Bang Theory, since they feature a great amount of SW stuff. Maybe Sheldon can make a guest appearance some time in the future? 😉
Comments! Hurrah! I don’t feel like it’s my place to make suggestions for the strip, but if you insist…
Nah, I’m just kidding. I don’t think there’s anything that needs changing, but maybe some smaller storylines would be cool to see (I guess like what Neil suggested–I’d enjoy seeing more of Ponda Baba and his miserable existence).
Ouch. R2D2 better stay away from Yoda. He is going to end up dissembled if R2 ends up alone with Yoda. Luke should just tell Yoda to walk it off. YES!! People get to comment again!!
Super awesome! *sniff*
A brief recap for anyone checking out LRW and wondering what the heck’s going on: the Millennium Falcon crewed by Wedge Antilles, Mallorie the Barbie, and Smitty the snow trooper were on their way to rescue Luke Skywalker and his brave band of rebels, most of whom have been imprisoned by the evil forces of Darth Vader for quite some time now, when they were intercepted by a Borg cube intent on assimilation, and perhaps with a bit of a grudge, which was in turn intercepted by the Enterprise D under Captain Picard’s command. Oh, and Deanna Troi is a Dark Side apprentice and she has a cape.
I love that this week’s BMS strip has consequences on next week’s. Yoda gamely carries on even though he has a hurt head!
Who knows..? Yoda might be dead!
In which case, Luke’s going to have to borrow some Chuck Norris karate books from the local library instead and listen to “Everybody was ‘Kung-Foo fighting'”
Sound like a better plot direction than keeping Yoda alive 😀
John, try reading the voting incentive strip. 😉
Good to see the comments up and running again. Hope you don’t have cause to take them down in the future.
I like Neil’s idea about little spinoff mini comics of the background characters, but I’d rather see you get to the end of ROTJ first. Some computer desktop background images might be nice
Yay, comments are back. Now I can easily tell you how much I still enjoy this comic. 🙂
SKOR the Great will have his revenge!
Great Shout out to Living Room Wars!
It is definately one of the first web comics I check, when I get a moment.
I second that. Great webcomic.
If Yoda got a concussion, would he start speaking with sentence structure like the rest of us or would he continue speaking in his own manner?
I must say, Yoda’s mixed-up-speak made groan and slap my forehead more than once, watching the prequels.
Great strip. A bit hard but nonetheless great.
Adaptation Rebel Mission to Ord Mantell! Its at least as official as the Holiday Special and Splinter of the Mind’s Eye (which I had to read, thanks to you). It even has actors, so arguabley more official than the latter!
I think you are feeling more chipper, than in the past, I guess you’re healing up again. So glad to see the comments restored.:-)
The timing in this one is perfect.
Keep up the great work. Still loving this comic.
gotta love the incentice strip!
w00t! Comments are back. I feel I should say something profound. … Nothing comes to mind.
- If you only knew the power of the dark roast.
Glad that comments are back up. Makes me feel more connected within the BMS community.
Great strip this week, by the way!
I think it would be hilarious if BMS brought in characters from Spaceballs. A Star Wars parody of a parody of Star Wars? Could be hilarious….
I’d just like to say “Thanks a bunch! I’ve wasted the last three days because of this strip!”
Having only found it on Monday, I started at number one and I’m now up to date – my girlfriend’s away for the week, so luckily there hasn’t been anyone to hear me burst into laughter dozens of times.
So here it is – thanks for entertaining me with this quite brilliant strip.
A bunch!
That’s awesome! Glad you enjoyed the journey.
Like Splinter in the Mind’s Eye, I think it would be awesome if you did shadows of the Empire between Empire and Jedi. Mostly because of the Devaronian tongue scene with your Leia. XD
Maybe. Have to dig out my copy of the dark horse trade. Or is that scene only in the book? Sounds like a comicky sorta thing though. 😉
The Hildebrandt painting of the scene captures the idea pretty well.

Wow! It sure does. I’d forgotten this image.
Yay! Back to normality at last. All’s right with the world again.
In fact – even on a galactic level.
