Roll call
Last night I wrapped up Monday’s strip just before midnight. I went to check how it would look on the site and I got ad popups swamp the screen. We quickly realized the site had been hacked. A number of WordPress sites were affected. A line of code was placed by the hacker into one of the php files. I found it and removed the code. I was advised to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress to help increase security. However, I didn’t have a backup and half asleep I just went ahead with the automated upgrade. It broke the administration control panel for the site. I soon learned that I’d done permanent damage to the site in my efforts to protect it. No backup. And my host doesn’t do me the courtesy of backups because our site is too large for their policy. We must have a few hundred gigs on our server.
*sigh*
So, we have lost the old site. We have lost all the old posts. All the blog entries, the photos, the links, the pimping out of friends websites… all gone. I spent all Monday morning building a brand new site using a new comic press template. It took hours to upload all the old strips. This happens just when we were about to get back into the swing of things.
With only 12 strips to go, I’m not going to throw in the towel yet. Anyway, that’s why the site looks different and why a lot of stuff is missing.

It’s good to see that you are back it sucks that you were hacked.
Thanks, Spence. We appreciate all the kind words we’ve received from readers. I will work on getting a nice star background on the site soon to make it a bit prettier.
God it sounds awful. Im glad you were able to get it running again though.
Keep up the good work on the comics. I enjoy reading them
I’m sorry for the trouble you’ve been put through, but I’m glad to see the site’s back and that you’re not giving up.
GODDAMN HACKERS!!!!
Good to have you guys back though. 🙂
I can’t even imagine what a nightmare that must be, and all in the midst of digging out from under your other work.
Bravo to you for not throwing in the towel! Corragio!
ouch. that rots. glad you brought the site back though.
Thank you for working hard to get the comic back up and running. I appreciate reading it 2-3x a week.
This is a great comic, even after the goddamn hacker, so i don’t think you ahve to worry about the loyal fanbase ^_^
Just starting reading yesterday (4/19/10) Don’t give up, this is good stuff!
Just curious why they would hack THIS site. It’s too good to screw up like that.
I was wondering why the posts were a little sparse on the back issues. Gosh that must have sucked!
I just started reading recently and am glad you guys have continued to work on the site and keep it accessible to us new folk.
Keep up the good work!! You’re collecting new fans every day 🙂
Haha, I was also thinking “not very popular this comic, barely 3-4 people commenting 🙂
Yeah, considering we had to reupload the first 150 or so strips, it lost all those accompanying comments. WordPress can really suck.
On a different note, it’s been bothering me for three decades now that the pilots don’t check off in any kind of order. I mean, how the hell do they know who’s supposed to be checking in when?
“Red three, standing by.”
“Red two, standing by.”
“Chartreuse dix neuf, standing by.”
“Innocent bystander, standing by”
“Red five, standing by.”
What. The. Hell, Lucas? Basic comms discipline, man! FIND someone who’s been in the military and have them write that damn scene!
Was Luke just last on roll call just because he was the rookie?!
