Screw this characterization!
In case you blinked and missed it, we updated on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week to tie in with our pals at Jedipedia.net who had a booth at Star Wars Celebration Europe. You can find those strips here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Also, today’s strip is the last for the month. We will skip posting on Wednesday and return on Friday instead.
And now, we return to Shadows of the Empire. Smack bang in the middle of the Leia “seduction”. Here is part 1. Here’s a nice piece of work by the brothers Hildebrandt illustrating the scene. How it actually plays out is that Chewie interrupts Leia, having to be quite persistent to pull her away. He then tells her Xizor’s trick. When she goes back to Xizor, she tries to fight his pheromone control while Chewie starts their escape plan. However, just when Xizor is at his most perverted, Leia knees him right in the family jewels. Rather than proceeding to escape, Leia is instead sent back to a cell and continues to fulfill the role of damsel in distress for the second, if not the third time in the series. WHOOP WHOOP… Lame.
Celebration Europe II happened over the weekend. Aside from a few interesting, but not earthshaking Star Wars announcements, the main comment I have is how much I appreciate the boys and girls at Jedipedia.net who gave some space at their booth to hang four Blue Milk Special pinups. One of those pinups was specially made for Jedipedia at their request. I’ve already plastered it all over the last three updates for everyone to see. But it includes Kyle Katarn, Ahsoka Tano, and Mace Windu, characters that are new to the BMS style. It also includes Jedi Leia. You know she uses that thing for lighting her cigarettes more than she uses it for fighting, right?
I’m very tired. I had a very difficult weekend. I had some dark, bleak moments. But some light is shining again and I’d like to say that we have decided to get a dealer table at RetroCon. That should be a lot of fun, especially since we’ve never done a show in Pennsylvania before. Any Pennsylvania fans out there? If you live in Pennsylvania or thereabouts, then you can come and see us the following week after Baltimore Comic Con. Make the most of the trip by getting a couple of unique sketch requests from Leanne’s artistic talents.
RetroCon celebrates 1980s era toys, animation and games. Two big name guests are voice actor Neil Ross (Transformers, G.I. Joe, Visionaries, Inhumanoids, Rambo, Voltron, and more), and Larry Hama (the brilliant writer behind the original G.I.Joe comic-verse). There will be Star Wars goodies there as well, of course. And I may have some oddities for sail from my personal collection. There will be plenty of retro merchandise to browse and buy, along with cosplayers sporting these properties.
RetroCon
Place: The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center
100 Station Avenue Oaks, PA 19456
TIME: Saturday, September 14th, 9am – 5pm
Why didn’t Chewie just snap his neck?
Retro Con is getting pretty close to my neck of the woods.
I could almost stock a dealers table (or 3, or 4) with vintage toys.
Beats me!
Love to see you at Retro Con!
Uh, this is kinda embarrassing. Google+ send me a “Do you know Rod Hannah” email. You know, like facebook does. Tell me what to do. >.<
The googly eyes cracked me up. 😉
The word HRRNNGH!!! has never been so funny! 😀
This whole comic — not just this storyline — makes me wonder what Carrie Fisher would think of it. From what I know of her, I think she’d be very amused by take-no-crap Leia never without a cigarette in her hand. I also suspect that he character here is sort of inspired by Fisher, anyway.
Well, I don’t want to speak for Leanne and Rod, but BMS Leia absolutely has a big dash of Carrie Fisher along for the ride. Just another reason to love this strip!
uuuyyyyyy a force knee in the crotch… unbelievable… fortunately for Leia looks like Xixor has same “weakeness” as human beings.
Crunch? Youch!! He had it coming though.
Lets see you try that with your action figures Phil!
I doubt it works on them anyway… 😉
The Leia I have in it is from the Shadows of the Empire line. No one had better piss her off!
Phil: Want to car Pool to Retro Con?
They are sure to have some new cast members for you…
Rod, please don’t post my previous one. I’ll send it on facebook. Don’t need to be discussing our vacation plans on your site! Jeez, Gatto…
Hey Phile, have you seen the new Lone Ranger film? Ever since I first saw the trailer I kept thinking about LRW x3
I don’t know what to compare it to as the original(s?) never aired in Sweden, but I thought the film was good. I thought Johnny Depp was going to pull a jack sparrow again, but he actually did well :3
Lone Ranger is awesome, but I haven’t seen the newest one yet. Probably netflix it. Does that Lone Ranger pack a giant phaser II? Mine carries a giant phaser II (for him, anyway).
I’m so glad I wasn’t drinking cos I would have sprayed all over the place. Those googly eyes were just inspired
I will be there for Baltimore and you are really making me want to go to Retro too. Curse you! I have to check the work schedule and maybe bring the young one along as well.
Ok. I’ve found this page a few weeks ago and I’ve now caught up. This is one of the funniest strips I’ve ever read online! Easily in the top 3. And I’ve got my son hooked as well. Brilliant. Now, would you please publish 4-5 strips per day from now on as I DON’T WANT TO WAIT!!!
Seriously though, well done! As someone who watched Empire And Jedi in the theatres, this is probably the best parody of Star Wars I’ve come across, and doesn’t mock it.
I miss the update this Wednesday, but it’s a good excuse to keep LOLing at the googly eyes.
Those eyes killed me XD
Just a query here, but I’m noticing in that artwork thingy that Xizor has asiatic style armour/outfit, long nails, a Chinese style ponytail thing, and generally looks like a lecherous Yellow Devil type character. Am I totally on the wrong track, or is this just another reason to not like the character? Also, Damsels in Distress are just so lame. I believe Officer Ripley would have a thing or two to say about this.
