Favorite BMS Character Poll Results
Well, we decided to end this poll after only two weeks voting. We accumulated 671 votes, which is quite phenomenal for that short length of time. Unfortunately, as this was my first time trying out the poll feature I rushed and didn’t think the choices through very well. I should have included BMS Tarkin and one or two others on this list. Clearly latte drinking BMS Vader is the real scene-stealer of this strip. It’s interesting to see Leia’s meteoric rise to a virtual tie for second place with our Don Quixote style Biggs Darklighter.
Glad to see some of our favorite characters being so well received by our readers. It’s also quite remarkable that Smoking Jawa has become so popular given his cameo-based appearances in the strip. Another shock was that Declan Jabba managed to get any votes at all. I suspect they were sympathy votes, but part of me does hope that I managed to do something right with the guy and that reader at least seem to embrace our strange divergence from canon.
Well, you all have a new poll to vote in today. It’s a straight forward poll this time, but one that EVERY Star Wars fan has an opinion on. Vote away! Oh, and feel free to vote for us on
TopWebComics.com too. Not many days left this month.
Blue Milk Special Gets Another Review!
The Author (Scott Wilkins) has posted a review of our little webcomic, Blue Milk Special over on his blog. We are very grateful for the kind words, indeed anything kind that anyone has to say about us. Scott is the creator of the Citrus webcomic, about four friends, Chaz, Razz, Gerry and Bob who all happen to be fruits with legs (uh, not fruits as a euphemism… I mean LITERAL fruits). The comic is a mixture of slice of life and observational humor and updated on Mondays / Tuesdays. Check it out, you might just find you have another webcomic to add to your reading list!
Best. Strip. Ever.
I feel that Declan Jabba is right for BMS, he fits the tone of it more than Jabba the Hutt would. Very few (if any) of your characters are 100% canon, which is how it should be. Nobody wants to read another straight retelling of the tales, we’ve got the movies, books and comics for that. One of the many things that keeps me coming back here everytime you upload a new strip is to see how you’ll interpret the story and the characters. You have both done a great job of creating likeable, recognisable versions of characters many of us grew up with, that have new twists to keep them fresh. After all the Biggs fan club on facebook (plug plug) has 180 members, an impressive following for a character who hardly appeares in the original movie!
Get over this self-doubt about the success of this comic, and keep suppling our regular fix of BMS goodness!!
Now if you’ll excuse me, my cape and I need to swing out of here and save the galaxy.
Oh yeah, love the role-playing reference. I’m running a Star Wars role-playing campaign and we’re playing this afternoon. Several of your strips decorate the player’s side of my DM screen.
I’m curious to see if Jaba does change to the Movie version in time for Jedi.
If he does I think it should be without explanation, as who is going to ask “Hey Jaba why are you fatter, Uglier and Lazier than usual” without being fed to the Rancor?
In any case I like Jaba Delcan, he reminds me of the first time I saw the outtake scene, and wondered why it was cut.
Or perhaps you could poke even more fun at Lucas’ whole going-back-and-messing-with-the-original tendencies and “accidentally” change the look of Jabba from Declan to slug and back again without explanation and perhaps weird the other characters out.
Possibly another moment where the Dueling Lucaseseseseses…ses could make an appearance.
…and exciting Sandtroopers who keep getting obscured by boring big CGI lizards’ arses!
Sort of on topic about the Star Wars movies and such:
I’d say the MOST frustrating thing about Star Wars these days is the fact that Georgey-porgy is making The Clone Wars series, which is good once you stop expecting it to be good, and/or NOT making a CG cartoon that takes place after Return of the Jedi.
If he can do one, why not the other?
Either way, I’m still going as “Scexy Fat Jedi” for Halloween.
Brilliant!
“which is good once you stop expecting it to be good”
Love it!! You guys never disappoint!!! I totally know how Halla feels theres nothing like have uncreative players in a game.
I like how Luke and Leia are so blissfully clueless!
…or, as Alan Dean Foster himself puts it, “helplessly blank.” Just picked up a copy of SOTME at the used book shop. Last time I read it was almost 30 years ago. Rereading it up to this point in the comic, one of the strangest past is when the stormtroopers are escorting Luke, Leia, and the miners they fought with to Grammel, and one of the troopers “surprisingly” volunteers detailed, xenoanthropological information about a temple they were approaching. There’s a scene in “Wayne’s World” like that.
I can’t wait for an opportunity to use that word now Phil!
“Xenoanthropological”?
Enjoying your web comic, John.
Ben: “Oh well. A duck can quack.”
Luke: “What’s a duck!”
Classic.
…and there’s the thing with Luke saying he learned just a little Yuzzem language, then being completely fluent in it, sort of like the Wayne’s World gag, with Wayne knowing Chinese. Is Mike Myers a Star Wars fan?
Good catch. Perhaps Mike really did make a subtle tribute to SOTME?
He’s about the right age for it to have left a mark in his creative subconscious!
Halla is starting to be one of my favorites. I dig how she has such a cynical attitude, being propelled only by the nonsensical narrative. Good stuff, as usual.
Many MANY thanks for the shout out, too! Every time I come here and see my comic here, my heart melts. I only wish you’d linked a more current episode(though I understand why); that one is hideous XD. But that’s a good thing; it reminds me I really should go back and update it to the current look, like actually giving Gerry some hair. Also, the names are Razz, Chaz, GERRY, and Bob. Plus Bob isn’t exactly a friend, but I can see Razz saying they are. SO many thanks once more, from one cartoonist to the next.
Cheers Phil! Hey Rod – what’s the ‘permalink’ link for?
I don’t know. Really, I don’t know how to fly this thing properly.
It’s kind of like the Falcon you never see how they fly it, all you have to do is pull some levers and pray.
But can it “maneuver”slightly to the left ?
I wasn’t aware of BMS when you had to poll but I wanna say Leia is my favorite! 🙂 I like Darth Vader, too, he’s hilarious here! But Leia is always my favorite SW character and you’ve done a good job with her! <3
