Splinter of the Mind’s Eye – Part 29
New to Blue Milk Special? Start reading from the beginning!
You have to love TK8008. That’s TK-Boob. I just hope Vader is mindful of those stalactites. ;=
The results are in. 323 of our readers made their opinions heard by casting their vote. Unfortunately the number of works littering the Expanded Universe made it hard to cover everything so a great many books, games and comics were omitted. However, I suspect that Heir to the Empire would have won out against anything. When those books were announced in the early 90s it was a big deal. It was made out to be the long awaited sequel to the Original Trilogy. They never actually worked for me. I know it’s heresy, but I found Thrawn too perfect to like. Anyway, if this poll is anything to go by then it is reassuring to know that nine of you are enjoying the Splinter of the Mind’s Eye parody. We have a new poll asking a very interesting and perhaps divisive question. What is the Best Way to View the Prequels? Feel free to respond in the comment threads and explain your point of view.
I don’t just do Blue Milk Special, you know. Issue #0 of Once Upon a Caper, my independent comic, is now available in print at OnceUponaCaper.com for $4.99. Leanne illustrated the front cover you see on the right.
In a nutshell it’s a fairytale / superhero blend about the Earth’s most powerful defender of justice–an 11 year old girl named Sovena Red. However, her powers came with a catch which has become her curse… There are many great pinups in the book from artists like Mike Maihack (Cow and Buffalo), Robbi Roddriguez (Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen and Maintenance), and John Amor (Pluck and Once Upon a Super Hero).
You can join the Once Upon a Super Hero Facebook fan page here.
I’m secretly praying that TK-Boob makes it all the way to the third film.
Same here, he is like Biggs in a Stormtrooper outfit.
Simply genius.
So… The Polls. I totally think it needs to be viewed in production order. The biggest reason?
“Luke… I, am your father..!” followed by ominous music, and Luke’s denial; Vader’s re-assurance of it’s truth… “Nooo!!! NOO!!!(?)” Needs to be heard. That still has an impact on me.
Anyone who sees the prequels knows already. It takes away a huge part of the saga if you already know the truth, simply put.
I would agree with this, and I imagine that Vader might lose a lot of ‘ominous dark overlord’ points if first time viewers know what he used to be like. And “A New Hope” might not feel so fresh if it comes with a lot of baggage. But apparently the poll question wasn’t necessarily about watching the saga for the first time, but “in general”. And then I’d have to go with a fourth poll option, which would be “separately”. Because the prequels certainly have a different flavour, and it’s not as if Episode III leads straight into Episode IV.
Re: Today’s strip
TK-8008 rules, and fat jokes are always funny. LOL at ’em fatties. Especially the evil ones. With moustaches. Just watch out for Jabba
, m’kay? 😉
i hate to be pedantic (all lies i’m a geek….i love being pedantic) but its actually “No. I am your father”
De Jawa Vu;
The strange feeling you’ve seen this BMS strip somewhere before…
Yet you laugh like its the first time! lol
Are you asking about watching the saga as a whole for the first time ?
No. Just in general.
Your comics light my day! I look forward to each and every one of them. 😀
Considering the poll, I was debating voting “not at all” as they’re no part of the Star Wars magic in my eyes. But then again at least Ep. III is a good movie on it’s own. Seeing myself as a Star Wars geek, I’ve only seen Ep. I and II once each. I just don’t feel them.
They only bring one stormtrooper?
Budget cuts!
Sorry I stopped reading for a while, a job change, schedule change, and loss of daily internets will do that…
That being said…to come back to a floating storm trooper just made my day. I love you guys….now let me stop laughing before I wake my son up.
Welcome back, Xenon. We missed you!
How about a “Favorite Dark Lord of the Sith” poll? Not too many options, easy choice for most. Granted Vader’s damn near guaranteed to win, but it could be interesting. Just a thought. Oh, and I have to agree about Thrawn. He’s a bit of a Mary Sue.
Gimmie a list of who you’d like to see on the poll. I don’t keep up with all the latest Sith lords. I can probably only list about 4 by name. Yeah… okay, like I’ve said… I’m an Original Trilogy guy.
I would say first time, you must see original trilogy first (4,5,6). After that, its whatever floats your boat. I think seperately as Gillsing stated is a great way to view it. The prequels have their own good parts… not many in Episode 1 in my opinion, but I did like Episode 2 and 3 in their own way. I still think that the original trilogy has a mystique and history to it that the prequels do not have. That being said… I am referring to the original versions, not the Special Edition (although i did like portions of those) or the DVD changes which change Anakin and Obi-Wan to the prequel versions at the end of Episode 6, but that can start a whole can of worms about George changing things that he shouldn’t.
I’m going to vote for Original Trilogy then Prequels, but caveated by the above comment.
I’d have to say, for the first time, originals first. you just don’t get that shock when darth vader reveals he’s luke’s father.
but in general? I’d have to say, I generally don’t have six-movie marathons in one day 😉 kidding aside, I voted originals first. they’re called prequels for a reason.
Vader can’t lift a fat guy but Yoda can lift an X-Wing? Go figure. Personally I think he’s being lazy.
That sounds like our Vader. ;=
I really liked the Courtship of Princess Leia – when I was like 16. When I reread it as an adult I was mildly appalled.
Most of the expanded universe novels are either too dark or too campy imo. It’s hard to find that right blend where characters can grow, develop, change and still be recognizable as the people fans love from the movies.
On a semi-related note – Blue Milk’s parody is so much fun! All the characters are recognizable at a glance and yet have their own BMS life and personality.
Nicely done guys! 🙂
Thanks so much! You are too kind. It’s a real kick for both us to hear from anyone at all who enjoys reading these silly strips. And I feel you on the EU material. I can’t think of anything that has really captured the feel.
