Splinter of the Mind’s Eye – Part 34
New to Blue Milk Special? Start reading from the beginning!
–EDIT–
I was so busy the last couple of days that I didn’t have time to make a proper blog post this morning, so here’s my update.
As you will probably know by now, Irvin Kershner ceased to be on Saturday 27th November, 2010. 87 years old, he passed away in his home in Paris after a 3 1/2 year battle with lung cancer. I never saw any of his directing work outside that of The Empire Strikes Back, except for Robocop 2–which I only learned was HIS movie a day or so ago. I thought Robocop 2 was a pretty bad film so I’m not going to dwell on it. However, The Empire Strikes Back is far and away the most popular segment of the Star Wars trilogy. I feel bad calling it a segment as it is such an affecting and powerful movie on its own, however it is very much an unfinished tale requiring Return of the Jedi’s conclusion.
Kershner was reluctant to direct the “sequel” to Star Wars, but in the eyes of the majority managed to make the film surpass the original in maturity and depth. The tumultuous production of the movie, marred with scheduling and budget problems, nevertheless culminated in what many remember as a cinematic masterpiece that went beyond the superficiality of a spectacle film. For many years, The Empire Strikes Back was my favorite piece of the Star Wars trilogy and there is no denying it ranks within my top 10, possibly even my top 5 films of all time. May Kershner’s be long remembered as master storyteller.
The Hollywood Reporter has a nice tribute.
Today we debut T. Gatto’s second series of BMS Milk Cartons. This time he brings you Rebel Pilot Luke, Biggs, Wedge and Senator Leia (hair buns included in the extras page).
Today we also debut a brand new Cantina Band incentive strip to kick off December. Enjoy!
One has to wonder how a temple was hidden for so long, its a bloody temple.
Luke is a smooth operator, dontcha think?
Heh. CPR from a smoker would be a do-not-want anywhom. 😛
This reminds me; I need to get crackin’ on the Tatooinian Rhapsody.
Nice Episode 3 bootleg reference with the “Do not want.” I laughed when I saw that clip. XD
Oh. That’s where do not want comes from? Neat.
Huh? Tatooinian Rhapsody? Like Bohemian Rhapsody? (Did I spell that right?)
Well actually…

I KNOW. Seriously, quit trying to demoralize me. :/
Did I already link that ?
(I couldn’t reply to the most recent one) But, yes. You did, I think.
Yeah.
I’d love to hear it.
Yeah, I’ve got a lot of things to write. The rhapsody thing, a story for a writing competition, and Chapter 18 of “Shattered Republic”. After Chapter 20, I’m gonna’ re-vise it some as well.
I’m a writer. 😛
I LOVE the Milk Cartons! They’re such a great idea and really neat to see!
Thanks fellas!
Thanks, I tried hard, and any feedback (positive or otherwise) is always appreciated. 🙂
Terrific! Today’s strip has an epic feel to it.
Loving the cartons, T.!
Thanks,
Rod can I make a BMS/Dorkside crossover Salacious Crumb Carton?
Neil seems to already have said OK, in a previous post, but I don’t want to overstep.
T. You can do what you like, but characters who have not yet appeared in BMS will not necessarily match your depictions. I am happy to post whatever you make! Thanks for the great work and contribution to this little fan community!
That’s a nice gesture, T.
I wouldn’t want you to get distracted from your BMS cartons though.
*cough*Yuzzem*cough*
Or what about a Grammel that comes apart to make two, half-pint cartons? 🙂
Good one! Red, strawberry milk. Yum.
Great Idea, I’ll see if I can figure out how to make a split Capt. Grammel carton.
The Yuzzem were added to the ever growing list on your previous request.
As for Crumb, I already had some work done, but was waiting for him to appear in BMS, so I thought I’d make a Dork Side carton, and another BMS adaptation later, when he appears.
Just stick the Dork Side logo on the carton in place of BMS. 🙂
Brilliant! You can feel the action as Luke swings into battle! Then gets pinned by a softball size boulder. Truly inspired stuff!
Great comic today, as typical.
You all are making it VERY hard for me NOT to print these things out, I just want you to know. Soon, SOON, I’m going to print one of these things out. If I print out Leia, I’ll grab a butt off the ground (or plum buy a fresh cigarette), and stick it in her mouth. What brand do you think she’d go for? Camel? Pal Mall?
I believe she smokes Princess Slims “you’ve come a long way since the destruction of Aldreon Baby”
I was planning on putting a cancer stick, or a straw with some brown paper over 1 end, in her mouth too.
Glad the cartons seem to be well received. 🙂
Hey Rod;
1- I cleaned up the lines on the cartons a bit, I just need to finish cleaning up Leia, I’ll send you the final cuts later.
2- If you are not going to use 3PO, the Emperor and Obi Wan can I post them to Face book?
3- Should I clean up the Cigarette covers, or are they a no-go?
4- What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
1. TY.
2. Go ahead. But I will post them on the site eventually.
3. Post them on FB. I don’t want to run afoul of moralistic types by pimping them on the main site.
4. What do you mean? An African or European Swallow?
I actually looked that up a while back and found this.
http://www.style.org/unladenswallow/
So not even the guy who did the math was able to figure it out…… For an African Swallow anyway.
lol Monty Python FTW. And as an answer to your #4, Rod, “I don’t know that…” *gets thrown into the chasm below the Bridge of Death*
Cigarette covers? That’s awesome!
I love that “going all Jedi on him” means using the convoluted method of dropping a stone column on the thing rather than just…I don’t know….slicing him open with a lightsaber.
Snarky Leia ftw. I love that last line. Be just a little more obvious next time, Luke, I’m sure it will work. 🙂
HAHA You go Luke!! You smooth devil you!!
Number 17 today in top web comics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOT!!!!!
You changed your icon thingy next to the link for this site. Why?
I very much like the new top for the website, and I heard about Irvin Kershner as well today, very sad.
Thanks! I threw the new header banner together really quickly myself.
ha ha lol one of your best comics yet!!!!! keep ’em coming!!!!!!
omg new header banner! Love it!
And OY, Luke, with the heroic routine one minute and the whiny high schooler the next?
Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
Also, saw the new incentive strip. LOL. As somebody who used to watch American Idol alot, well there you go. I found it especially funny.
Lovin the new header banner. I can’t wait to see the BMS take on Yoda. I’m thinking he’s gonna become a new favorite character….
