Blue Milk Special Sketch Cards!
BLUE MILK SPECIAL HOLIDAY TREATS!
We had real fun working on this strip over the weekend. Luke’s first onscreen confrontation with Vader is so epic and dramatic, especially now I’m watching the scene in the crisp clarity of Blu-Ray. Sure, I’d rather not see all the unccessary effects shots they squeeze in everywhere… or the voice dubs that erased the original Boba Fett personality. But, it’s still crisp, sharp and fresh to watch. So much detail on screen to enjoy in the comfort of my own home. Tis the season to be jolly… falalalalalalalalala. *cough* BMS is ready to do some giving, are you?
As you know, BMS is looking for ways that readers and fans can help the project. We have several options available to you and they’re all pretty cool. Some would even make great Holiday Season gifts for you, friends and family. One idea might be an artist’s sketchcard of a character of your choice. For a limited time, Leanne is accepting Sketchcard commissions with the purchase of her Artbook and Sketchbooks. We also have FREE pinups and promo cards to throw in as thank yous for those that make multiple purchases. Read on below…
This year, in addition to her 2012 Sketchbook, we decided that we would collect the very best of Leanne’s color pinups into a single collectors item Artbook.
Want a Blue Milk Special pinup?
If you like the Death Star Class of ’77 pinup, you can get a free print (11″x 17″ inches, hi-quality card stock) mailed to you either with the purchase of more than one sketchcard and Artbook Vol. 1 or Sketchbook 2012, or by trading an action figure in exchange (see bottom of page for trading). There’s also the Blue Milk Special 2011 Group Pinup which has only been available to readers who have met us at conventions.
These prints are NOT FOR SALE, but you can still get them from us.
If you purchase either a Leanne Hannah Artbook or a Sketchbook you have the option of commissioning a personal sketchcard of a character of your choice (doesn’t have to be Star Wars). As long as you’ve already commissioned 1 card, you can commission as many more from Leanne as you like. As a special thank you, I will mail you one of the prints while my supplies last.
The Artbook features 40 pages of color and graytone pinup art (including 3 Blue Milk Special pinups, and 1 Young Grand Moff Tarkin portrait). The book includes a centerfold of Leanne’s popular Harry Potter “Order of the Phoenix” group pinup. We won’t sell Blue Milk Special strips or collected works, or even prints of our BMS pinups online for ethical reasons, so this is one of the coolest ways you can actually support us and help keep us kicking!
If you purchase either the Leanne Hannah Artbook Vol.1 or the Leanne Hannah Sketchbook 2012, you will also get an exclusive BMS souvenir. The BMS Bounty Hunter pinup has previously only been available as a glossy, double-sided promo card which we have given out for free at conventions. Just to clarify, if you purchase both the Artbook and the Sketch Book, you can request two of the promocards (just note in in the “character” field upon checkout).
The Leanne Hannah Sketchbook 2012 collects 32 pages of black & white ink and pencil sketches illustrated from late 2011 to October this year. It includes a wide range of characters and is another great memento of Leanne’s work. See the image below for examples…
AND for an additional $20 Leanne will sketch a character of your choice on a sketch card just for you. Leanne has not accepted commissions outside of conventions for the last three years, so this is a rare chance to have your very own, unique sketchcard of whoever you want. It could be a BMS character, it could be a comic character, it could be from an HBO series, whatever you want. It will come with a protective card sleeve and be signed by Leanne.
We have been publishing Blue Milk Special online as a non-profit endeavor since 2009 and anything you can do to support us is greatly appreciated. In the past, we have accepted donations, but by purchasing an artbook or sketchbook, you can actually get something physical in your hands in return. We hope you’ll seize the opportunity for a sketchcard as we all have our favorite characters and these items are 100% unique and your own. Which character would YOU want to get?
You can TRADE with me for a print if you are willing to exchange an action figure of a character on My Want List is from the Original Trilogy and I’ll email an up-to-date list to you if you are interested in this option.
Wouldn’t the last panel be an “in flight refueling” as he leaps down at Luke Waterwalker?
Just want you to know that being the huge Star Wars fan that I am, I absolutely love this comic strip and everything you do with it. Started it back from the beginning again not too long ago and just finished up ANH for the second time, and I’m loving every minute of it. Keep up the awesome work! (I’d buy something if I wasn’t a broke college student)
Can sketch cards have more than one character?
ie. Batman and Robin, Han and Chewie
Yes. Leanne will allow exceptions, but no more than 2 characters. Also, having more than one character reduces the size of the characters somewhat on the card. Just something to consider. She drew one sketchcard of Indiana Jones swinging through the air with Leia under his arm. Obviously the characters had to be small to fit on the card. Cards are the size of trading cards.
Cool! And how much would two sketch cards and either the art or sketch book be? $50?
After you buy one book and a sketch card (regardless which book), you can then commission as many additional sketch cards as you like for $20 each. So, yes. If you commission more than one you should check with Leanne whether she can get them all done and mailed to you BEFORE Christmas. How soon you would need to order would also depend on where you live. I think you are near DC, like us, so it shouldn’t be any delay in delivery.
Yeah, my HQ is stationed fairly close to DC. 🙂
I’m just playing around with ideas for a possible order.
The possibilities for epic Leanne Hannah sketches are infinite! I’d love a sketch, but I can’t decide on a character.
One more question–Which has more DC Comics and Marvel drawings (I’m assuming Star Wars will be present as well), the Artbook or Sketchbook?
I believe the Artbook is the best option for a BMS reader, if you are only planning on getting one, rather than both. The Artbook has three BMS pieces in it, and the younger governor Tarkin portrait.
Another great strip…I’ve been waiting to see what you do for Luke/Vader fight on Bespin! Vader doesn’t spill a drop of his coffee during the fight… 🙂
Vader will probably get TICKED, if his coffee freezes!
Unless he’s a frozen coffee guy as well. I like mine cold!
Wait, what, shouldn’t he say “The Forceyness is strong with you, Skywalker”? 😮
Good point. I might tweak it. Lucas-style!
I was wondering that myself.
In the movie Vader fights Luke one handed most of the time. I’m sure the coffee will be safe. 😉
I’ve forgotten how unique the colors were in this whole sequence in the movie. Very warm and bright, despite the events unfolding.
Can’t wait to see the BMS take on Luke losing his hand!
So many options to choose from: Does Luke make Vader spill his coffee when he hits him in the shoulder? The dozens of mattresses under Luke, etc.
Only Rod knows!
(And surely Leanne, too. I was just making a “God knows” pun)
Sigh.. that’s ZOD!
KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!
I couldn’t find a contact link on the main page…could I request the Class of 77 print with the order I just placed since I already have the other print? Thanks!
Actually, if you click on “about us” in the menu at the top of the page, you’ll see the very first sentence of that page includes a “click here” to contact us option. I’ll see you get the print you want. Thanks for your support! 🙂
Staying in the air… Vader is such a showoff! 😛
