The Lucas Showdown!
What a great show! Baltimore Comic Con once again did an amazing job hosting one of the very best conventions that still focuses on comics and their creators! This year was even more cram packed with talent and foot traffic reflected it. something like 15,000 people attended over the weekend and kids got in for free! A big thank you to the organizers for making it happen and taking good care of us throughout the weekend.
We had no idea so many BMS fans would show up. We were overwhelmed with the response on Saturday and it was a real thrill to meet all who were able to attend. We learned many of you read the strip but have not posted any comments. Hopefully that will soon change now you know us. And our apologies if we looked like we were planning to attend Baltimore’s Zombie March on Saturday night. That wasn’t makeup. We were seriously exhausted. We left our two promotional banners at home in the rush to get up to Baltimore and had to drive all the way back to get them. Causing us to get back to Baltimore at about 2:30 AM when we should have been settled by 9 PM. After that little bit of unneeded stress we were able to settle down and enjoy the show on Saturday morning and walk past a huge line that had formed 3 hours before the show. We also introduced the strip to many new potential readers. The number of people who came to our table having been referred by word of mouth at the show was astonishing to us. We’re so glad people like our work even if we do half ass it a lot of the time! 😉 Below are some of the awesome sketches that Leanne drew for fans as well as a shot of us at the booth with a Biggs Darklighter action figure kindly gifted to us by Xenon, one of our regular readers.
New to Blue Milk Special? Start reading from the beginning!
Yay! This is a great new addition: Young Vs. Old George. I love it. You could do some amazing time-travelling-trying to change the future type stuff here!
You said “half-assed”. Are you kidding? I think it’s amazing what you two manage to produce, on top of everything else you’re committed to.
Agreed, if thats half-assed Id love to see a full ass (figuratively of course).
keep up the awesome work. I wish I could go to these comic things. We kinda get the short end of the stick when it comes to events here in the NW.
If old Lucas wins, does that mean Star Wars, or the ensuing movies, will never be made? A Loss-of-Lucas paradox! Doc Brown would be very upset.
Keep up the great work. I just found you guys thanks to the Baltimore Comic Con and you now have a new fan for life!
Which George Lucas would shoot first? 🙂
Brilliant!
Nice! X D
Will the older aged G. Lucas win since he’ll be able to conjure up better special effects?
Nah – they won’t be real – or convincing. That’s CGI for you.
If Old Lucas wins, I predict he’ll finish off Young Lucas with Vegeta’s Big Bang attack.
Thanks a lot; (reference your sketches)
Now on top of making me realize that I still have the hots for Carrie Fisher after all these years, I have just developed a thing for being frozen in Carbonite.
Since you are tugging on old heart Strings/hormones, If you ever do any more Star Trek crossovers can we see Yoman Janice Rand? Since I’m at it how about Julie Newmar as Cat Woman, or Linda Carter as Wonder Woman?
You are forcing me into an early midlife crisis!!!!!
I just wish I had a therapist to bitch to 🙂 .
Linda Carter is always possible. OMG she’s still so hot.
I love how the fourth wall is messed with whenever either of the Lucaseseses….ses show up! X D
Can’t wait to see who wins….or appears to win….or who “fixes” things later on….hee.
Hey, thanks for the comics, and the cool picture for my son.
What can I say, when you find Biggs in the discount bin you have to buy him. I never even knew they made an action figure for him until I saw it.
Now we are working out how to make a tiny coffee mug for the Darth Vadar we got.
LOL! That’s awesome! Please email us the photos as soon as you figure that one out! I’m surprised no one has done this yet.
I also meant to suggest you turn Biggs into a Flat Stanley kind of thing, you could take him to Cons and get pictures of him “around town.” Just a suggestion.
We’ll get those pics when we figure it out…my wife used to do special effects, so she already has a couple ideas.
Flat Biggs!! That idea is totally made of win!
Actually there is a newer Biggs figure, which was released as part of the 2007 3yh anniversary wave, featuring Biggs in his “normal” clothes. Didn’t buy it, but at least the cloak was made of “cloth” and not those hard-plastics you see most old SW figures have. My Darth Vader figure who is from a “order 66” line (from the time when filling in the space between ep 3 and 4 was new and hip) has a “soft” mantle (and chain that holds it) too 🙂 this if also VERY creepy in the way that about 2 months ago, I just started watching the Dragonball anime (have forgot everything I read in the books). When writing this, I’m currently on thge second Budokai tournament or whateve rit’s called. Goku vs some indian named Pullap or something… this summer I also got hold of an OLD han in hoth gear figure from when the first “remake” came out, in 94. first time in my life i’ve ever seen on of the pre-ep 1 made figures 😀 was barely articulated and didn’t look like han/harrison at all, plus it looked like he was on steroids. hm, have you noticed of most action figs of the 90’s are so “beefy”?
crap, seems I’ve fallen back into my speed-typing again >_> but i think you guys uderstand what i’m saying… mostly… hopefully… ehm, moving on! :p
Also, it’s official: the kame-hame-ha wave has its roots in the force. comon guys, we always thought it looked a little bit too much like force push/blast, didn’t we? I did…
DBZ fight eh? Only one way for that to end, Spirit Bomb! Think of the power that would have in the Star Wars galaxy!
Awesome!!!! Everytime I think that you can’t get any better you go and pull something like this and put me in my place!
Hey, I called it! Didn’t expect it to go all DBZ though…
Being a regular reader myself, I suppose I should start commenting.
And yes, this is a great observation about how Young Lucas and Old Lucas work differently. Really, it’s like they’re two separate people.
Awww… you should do some sort of naruto fight next time… AH! Chidori versus Rasengan! 🙂
Love the Dragon Ball Z reference!!! I somehow missed you at Comic Con! I looked all around for you guys and I couldn’t find you (of course you were in the one section I didn’t go down…). So now I can say I really love this comic and all of the artwork and I’m a huge fan! 😀 Keep up the great work!
Aw. We are sad you didn’t find us. 🙁 Thanks for the compliments, though!
I promise if you’re there next year I will come and visit! And buy artwork, of course 🙂
If you people are at comic-con next year i might go just for the sake of seeing the peoples who make BMS! by the way i love the DBZ reference there! Huge anime fan talking hehehe
Depends on which Comic Con you’re talking about. We definitely won’t be doing SDCC in the near future. But we may do Heroes Con (North Carolina), Otakon (Baltimore), Baltimore Comic Con, New York Comic Con, and depending on circumstances, Celebration VI (Orlando). However, its a matter of being able to afford to do any of these since we have never broken even through sketches and prints at a show, especially not when you factor in travel and hotels. If you want to see us at a show then its better to shoot for one of the bigger shows and help spread the word. 🙂
Any chance of Origins, or Mid Ohio Con both in Columbus, Ohio?
What says I love comics more that a backdrop of dilapated rust belt neighborhoods?
Hey Heroes Con looks like the closest to where i live, of course me going all depends on me getting off work 🙂
Wow, am i the only one who didn’t watch Dragonball Z ?
i love the sketch’s…to me, vader’s saying “don’t make me put down my latte”
Woot! Go George the First! Kick the old man’s butt!
Ok, this one had me in stitches. I laughed so hard I could barely breathe.
-elf-
Excellent. Although we’re disappointed that none of our strips have actually killed anyone yet. :-/
I could see those 2 doing that heh
I love the art style of both young and old Lucas, just awesome!
Battle of the George’s – Dragon Ball Z style!
Love it 🙂
OMG GEORGE LUCAS FIGHT!!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!! sorry uncontrollable urge to type loudly…
