Wampa in the base…
As is often the case, Blue Milk Special diverges from canon to include expanded universe material contemporaneous to The Original Trilogy and in this case, deleted or unfinished scenes that never made it into the final movies. If we had not explored some of the deleted scenes during our Star Wars parody, then Biggs Darklighter’s cape would never have made an appearance and the entire direction that it dictated for his character would never have happened. Now that we are well into our parody of The Empire Strikes Back one of the first major deleted scenes (or cut scenes) is an entire secondary plot involving a Wampa invasion of Echo Base. Fortunately there are excellent websites out there that provide information on the existing material and recreate the missing scenes using the script, photos, artwork, and in some cases existing footage. My favorite website happens to be Star Wars Cut Scenes.com and you can find this particular scene under the Episode V category.
Artoo-Detoo narrowly escapes as a Wampa Ice Monster crashes into the base, enraged by his electronic whistling. A group of Rebel soldiers only manage to stop the creature with a blast from a large bazooka weapon. Right after this, sensors pick up a new intruder (which happens to be an Imperial Probe Droid).
This is part of the Wampa sub-plot that was deleted from the film. Some of the Wampa footage was filmed, but most of it was scrapped due to problems with getting the Wampa to look right.
Some photos are from the LucasArts Behind The Magic CD ROM, others from various sources.
37 of you said that you would only go to a comic / sci-fi convention if Blue Milk Special was there. Thanks guys! We hope the other 124 convention goers (35%) would also stop by our booth if we were present. More than half the readers do not attend conventions, although (35%) seem open to the idea. To those who do not attend conventions, I salute you. Having attended cons and exhibited at cons for nearly a decade, I can certainly relate. While cons are often a lot of fun, the crowds and the level of geek can sometimes be overwhelming. For those that do attend or would be interested in attending, Leanne and I will be at Baltimore Comic Con (August) and may also attend Virginia Comic Con (2 day show in November) if and when it is announced.
New poll question here. Would you purchase a Blue Milk Special sketchbook?
We will be back on Monday with a new strip. Also, look out for a new voting incentive strip coming very soon, starring Darth Vader. ;=
I am cracking up-holding my sides-rolling on the floor-laughing
I see the gang is as observant as ever! 😉
I’ll bet chewbacca could take him. 🙂
They can’t help being unobservant, they’re distracted by all the flirting. :p
Fresh scar-face kid versus space-hardened smuggler with a deathmark tattoo on his ass? he-LO
Chewbacca would just shoot him, a la Indiana Jones.
Or tear his arms out of their sockets. Whichever was more convenient. X )
Leia the Playa! And she’s been busted!
I had no idea Richmond even had a con. Is it me, or do those things seem to be springing up eveywhere lately? Hope you enjoy it and find a lot of new readers.
That is a really intense drag Leia’s taking on the ciggy in the last panel 😉
The result of an angry underbite after Han’s comment.
See you in Richmond! Woo Hoo! 🙂
Awesome, T! We are still waiting to hear back from the organizer to secure our place there. Will be great to see you. Bring the kids!
I can see how you and some of your fans might now like attending cons. You guys have some big cons out there on the east coast. Here in the midwest we have lots of smaller cons, 300-500 attendees. that makes them a lot of fun both for the fans and those that staff them.
