Wampa Trap
This is another scene in the largely deleted wampa subplot in The Empire Strikes Back. To see how the original played out visit Star Wars Cut Scenes.com.
Hope you like our new banner designed to mirror the progress of the Blue Milk Special parody. Leanne did a great job paying homage to the king, Ralph McQuarrie.
We decided to close the poll which asked whether our readers would buy a Blue Milk Special sketchbook. While most people said “yes” (48%) and (31%) said “maybe”, I didn’t really see any explanation from those that flat out said “no”. Just no interest at all in a piece of Blue Milk Special memorabilia, or simply confusion over what a sketchbook is? Unfortunately the nature of polls isn’t that conducive to in depth discussion and voter feedback. We also had a lot less interest in this poll question. We get thousands of visitors everyday and yet only a small number are interested enough to communicate with us.
It seems that overall, people have received the idea positively. For now, it remains an idea only. Technically a little over 200 said they would buy one, but that’s without knowing the price and often people fail to follow through. Ultimately we could end up with very few sales so it requires some thought on our part before we move forwards.
LOL!
Next I want to see 3PO in a pitched battle with wampas.
I’d buy a sketchbook just to see that 😉
That would be great!
Fighting like a prissy ‘girl’?
And have him be highly effective, if unconventional.
R2D2 should just pop out Obiwan’s lightsaber and C3po should just go all jedi on them. THen have luke walk by and see C3p0 standing there with a lightsaber and a bunch of “wounded” wampas on the floor around him. Could you imagine his experession!
I just noticed how well the drawn characters fit in with the backgrounds. The Poll is already very close with Biggs and Vader pulling out ahead. I voted Biggs. The star that burns brightest burns shortest.
Thanks, re: the art. We try!
I love the new banner!!! The Biggs in the back ground is just awesome!!
I love that piece by Ralph MacQuarrie. He has such an epic imagination. Amazing guy.
1. As one of those who voted yes…why not make a digital sketchbook/artbook?
2. I gotta stop reading BMS when my wife is sleeping, I laughed so hard at 3PO it woke her up
Hah! I didn’t even know (as usual) whether the strip would really prove to be that funny. When you spend hours working on something, its sometimes hard to tell whether it really is funny. Some strips hit the mark better than others though. I’m still not sure about this one. Sorry about waking your wife!
wasnt paying attention and missed the poll.. but i would love to own a sketchbook or just some artwork in general. ive been following you guys since the ny comic con last year and now have a number of ppl eagerly await every new strip. many of my friends have become fast fans aswell and we have often spoken of how fun the art is and humorous the writing is. you guys do a great job.
That is so kind! Thanks so much! Sorry our update schedule has fallen back to just one per week lately. But it’s the only real compromise for our busy lives which have to take priority more often than we’d like. Thanks for introducing BMS to others and spreading the word. Glad they like it too.
I know exactly what you mean Rod and Leanne
I saw a comment, or two, about a Vader photo booth. My computer keeps saying Error on page, so I’m assuming I have some sort of compatibility issue. Anywhere else I can find it?
Other that that I agree with Rogue026, I love how the droids meld into the background. Now get back to penguinonia comics Rogue! 😉
I also love Biggs hanging from the At-At. LOL. 🙂
You can view the background here
Oh, geez! That IS Biggs hanging from the At-At! I couldn’t figure out what that was! *duh*
Just FYI, I didn’t respond to the poll either. I adore your work and would love to have a sketchbook, but I’m assuming shipping to Germany would be pretty steep and right now I don’t think i can afford that.

:Great design on the wampas and the new look of the site. Keep the strips coming.

You get a free cape! … ok I made that bit up, sorry. You get to look at a picture of Biggs in a cape.
WHAT! I want my free cape, and stick on moustache!
I suspect you have already made you’re own stick on moustache 🙂
Is there a way you could do a small Sketch book maybe only a few pages 8-12? Maybe you could get sponsors to off set the cost, local comic shops put in a half/full page ad for say $100 – $200.
I just did a job here at work that was a 28 page 8.5×11 annual report with a 100# cover for about $2.80 a piece. We ordered (1000) A 28 page book could easily sell for $15 each.
Presales for $10 + S&H
Sponsorships $100 half page $150 Full page (plus 10 issues to resell)
This should cover the costs. You may not make any money on the first go round, but this would cover the costs and give you plenty of books to hand out to increase your marketing.
And don’t order the books until you make the cost to print them. This would be a great Kickstarter Project!
The trouble is finding the time to organize it all. I have a magic/western hybrid comic in the works with artist Brian Brinlee, two comic projects with Leanne, a children’s storybook with Leanne, and a novel all happening concurrent to Blue Milk Special. 🙁 But excellent advice nonetheless. If we ever get time, or we get volunteers then this is most likely the path we would pursue!
Cripes! That’s some juggling!
I would be happy to volunteer with book layouts and working with the printers to get quotes and such. Let me do some thinking… “Puts on his Pooh cap” Think Think Think… I may have some idears. I’ll put them down in an email and shoot them over to you to look at in your free time! :lol
Amusingly enough, Star Wars Battlefront II pays a very effective and amusing tribute to the deleted Wampa scenes: on Hoth, you can play a certain game type where it is, literally, Rebels vs. Wampas on Hoth. And the Wampas ALL play like Samuel L. Jackson! (Seriously. One of the only two black guys in the Galaxy? That’s enough reason to watch the prequels for me…)
Actually, in the Shadows of the Empire game during the Hoth level there were a few rooms that (when opened up) had some wampas in there that took FOREVER to kill.
