Water Conservation
I don’t know how long it actually took Han and Leia to reach Bespin without lightspeed/hyper drive, but it was worth highlighting. Hope you like!
I want to thank all the Blue Milk Special readers who have donated to help Emily. I’ve included a photo of Emily in her amazing Ashoka costume. Unfortunately, Emily now struggles to walk. This 10 year old Star Wars fan has to have brain surgery in a couple of weeks time. She has Moyamoya disease and Carey has set up a FaceBook page all about it and Emily’s progress at the Chronicles of Moyamoya Disease. An official 501st fundraising event is being held on June 8 at the Holiday Bowl in Groton (Connecticut) with Star Wars characters in full costume on hand. See the flyer here for more details.
“Obi-Wan” and “Padme” (James Arnold Taylor and Catherine Taber) from the Clone Wars sent Emily a a personal video! She has also received an offer from the Make a Wish Foundation’s Connecticut Chapter. I can’t stress this enough to readers, that even as little as $5 dollars means something to her family. Their goal is $5000 and I am proud to say that Blue Milk Special has helped towards that, however there is still a loooong way to go. Remember, if you donate and leave the message “Blue Milk Special” you will get an exclusive BMS strip featuring Darth Vader and IG-88! You’ll also get our respect.
This one has to be one of your best. Hilarious!
Also, can I donate even though Mark Zuckerberg finds my lack of Facebook disturbing?
They have a separate FaceBook page to share info about Emily’s progress. The donation page has nothing to do with FaceBook.
I was just making sure before I try to put my information in for donating.
Sweet!
Nice reference of the tape on Leia’s “girls”. Very funny.
Also, next week’s strip? I don’t want to give anything away, but very nice play on a common abbreviation!
If only Chewy didn’t have to have a spa treatment every other day there would be plenty of water! But this works too.
Brilliant.
Also, I appreciate that Chewie is staring directly at her bust.
I wish they had devoted just a few seconds to establishing the amount of time that passed in this part of the film. It seems like they get to Lando right away, but it must have been days – weeks.
NERD REPLY… Even if their best sub-light speed was “close” to light speed, you could expect the flight time to be at least 4 or 5 years. I don’t know too many stars that are closer than that to each other except for Binary stars, and there is no indication of that. So, in the sci-fi movie universe, the laws of physics must be contravened for them to get anywhere in less that a few years. Contravened pretty heavily too, as having two stars within light weeks of each other would probably cause some epic gravity / radiation issues. Regardless of true science, Han and Leia definitely had time to get familiar with each other. 😉
Sounds like we need to call in Doctor Who.
NERD REPLYING TO THE NERD REPLY… Another fan speculation is that the Falcon limped to Bespin on an emergency backup hyperdrive, considerably slower and shorter-ranged than the souped up main hyperdrive, with just enough juice to make it to the nearest port.
That would seem justified given the laws of physics… although those have already been partially contravened by FTL travel anyway but we’ll let that slide since Star Wars is meant to be fun! 😉
Remember, that we’re well out on the edge of the milky way, and the distance to out nearest neighbor isn’t necessarily representative.
If you’re in close to the galactic core, stars can be fairly close together, according to the best sources I can find, within 1/4 ly. If the Falcon is capable of high sublight speeds (.995c or so), they could have spent as little as a couple of weeks apparent in transit. This could also be why Luke had considerably more time to train on Dagobah than the movie seems to indicate.
I just wouldn’t want to use the head after the wookie, without some serious air freshener. 😉
I wouldn’t want to sit where he’s been. How does he clean……never mind.
EXPANDED UNIVERSE ANSWER: Bespin and Hoth are both located along a branch of the Corellian Trade Spine. They seem to be neighboring systems, with only Anoat in between. For further details, see the official [url=http://www.starwarsmap.com/]Star Wars Map[\url].
