We’re not going to regroup…
–EDIT: Thanks to reader BobaFette for the idea for the revised punchline. 😉
Halloween is fast approaching and that means that costumes and candy are already invading the local stores. A couple of years ago I had a friend secretly knit Leanne a Doctor Who scarf, although time limitations meant it was only about ¼ the full length of the television version. This Halloween Leanne and I are thinking about a Star Wars theme. We don’t have the time to custom make a costume, and we don’t have the cash or time to make any authentic replicas that would pass the 501st Legion’s standards of accuracy. So, we’ve come up with an idea but need some help.
Peter, a friend of ours over at Buy Star Wars Costumes.com (shameless plug for a genuinely good site) reminded us of the Star Wars licensed costume range currently available. The problem, however, is that there are so many to choose from and I’m not really a clone sort of guy! I like to be a little more individualistic. It’s not easy picking when the range is so wide. Where do we begin?
Since we’re having trouble making up our minds perhaps some of our readers can recommend a costume from the list that you think would suit Leanne and myself. Too bad Biggs Darklighter is so unknown otherwise I would have snatched that costume up in an instant. 😉
In case anyone else is interested in a Star Wars themed Halloween and is not so fortunate to belong to the 501st, then these officially licensed costumes look like a great alternative. Created and owned by a fan, Buy Star Wars Costumes.com was launched 6 years ago and has introduced a new supreme/authentic costume to their inventory each year. They offer price matching and have very fast shipping at a low rate. They also offer live chat support.
As we get closer to Halloween if any readers want to send in photos of their Star Wars themed costumes, then we would love to share them. Email us at bluemilkspecial@gmail.com
It shows what he’s saying on Luke’s computer readout in that scene.
Who can say?
You could get a 501st approvable Imperial Officer or Crewman costume for about $300. Find the IOC and ask how you will.
Great idea, Sarah! I’ll have to save up for that one though. The cape is the key. In the short term I’ll see if I can find something in time for Halloween.
Wouldn’t it be possible to use a cape from a vader costume?
Good call. But that might be an expensive investment just for the cape. I am definitely thinking about these boots for Bigg’s Tatooine costume. http://www.buystarwarscostumes.com/accessories_boots_jedi.html
Hm you know, if I’m right, i think Qui-Gon Jinn’s brown trousers he has under the tunic could work for Biggs. or any other jedi-like set of trousers i nthe right hue of brown
Also I remember that my dad have a biege-colored vest he tends to use on vacations around the rest of Europe. it looks alot like biggs’ jacket but without the sleeves. so It should be too hard to find a “normal” jacket like that. wouldn’t suprise me if that’s what they used in the original cut-out scene! Also, a match for you and leanne could be hard since most female costumes that’s not han/luke + leia is either anakin + padme prequels or EU. if you don’t want that, or the overly-used leia get-up I don’t think there are many other matching male + female costumes. I hope she won’t be picky about using a “male” costume, because that feels pretty inevitable if you want something more unique than the usual getup without going for the prequels or EU…
If I could see it or find it in an online store I’d consider it!
From the costumes listed, I’d go with the classic Leia (for Leanne), and the X wing pilot (for Rod). You could always get a Biggs repaint done for the X wing helmet, and modify it later on to look better.
I have an extra vintage Han Solo blaster sitting around I’ll send you for a gun, if you can use it.
I’m looking into a Rebel Trooper Costume myself, or an Imperial fleet Trooper. Do the 501st or Rebel Legion allow for Milk Carton heads?
If the milk carton heads ever manage to find their way into a movie or the clone wars TV show you’d be able to do it. We’ve got a Wilrow Hood aka Ice Cream Maker Guy in Terrapin Base even though you see him running behind Lando for all of 2 seconds if even that long on Cloud City.
I’d honestly say go with the pilot and then repaint a helmet to Bigg’s design since you’ve got the artistic ability to do it. Or forgo the helmet, grow a ‘stache and throw on a cape and you’ve got it 🙂
And if you two are seriously thinking about doing costumes for the Rebel Legion or 501st, I’d be more then happy to give you advice and help on them since you’d end up with the rest of us living in Maryland 🙂
Can’t afford to get “serious” about a pro replica costume right now. Though, if I did, it would be Tatooine Biggs all the way! Thanks for the offer of help though! We love knowing some of our local 501st peeps.
My pal Ian, aka Tigrus Falco, formerly of the Mandalorian Mercs, could set you up with some terrific Mandalorian armor. He’s quite the creative guy.
Yeah I was gonna say, he’s reading what’s on his display, but in your defense, who’s to say the screen can accurately interpret beeps? If people aren’t reading Artoo correctly, he must be one of the saddest droids in the history of A Long Time Ago.
oh the slave leia costume is a must think of the possibilties of fun at home!!!
For who? R or L? More so, who would be the one who actually WEARS the thing?
We are both trying to decide
In the movie I remember Luke hearing the beeps, but then looking down at a screen that translated for him.
Can’t guarantee he can actually hear the beeps. But on the other hand, this logic comes from the people who believed that bras aren’t worn in space.
I think you should go as Smoking Jawa and BMS Vader, just add a big mug to the costume. 🙂
We definitely need to make the mug!
Naturally my vote is for smoking jawa. In fact, I may snag that idea for myself. Screw random red-skirt or Sexy Rainbow Brite! I’m going to be Smoking Jawa!
We got chastised at Baltimore Comic Con for depicting a Jawa smoking. By a Jawa no less. LOL. I guess they hadn’t noticed our Leia.
I was just thinking that you should be Darth Vader with the cup of coffee and Leanne could be angst Leia with the cigarette. People would probably be okay with the cigarette but get on your case about the Star Trek logo.
I like the Cad Bane costume.
Everything else is unoriginal really.
Hint: do not go for Leia!
Maybe a rebel trooper costume with a cape and a moustache 😉
How about going as a box of C3POs cereal and an R2D2 Blue Milk Special Carton!!!
or
Rod could dress as old Lucas and Leanne as Young Lucas!
But I really like the idea of BMS Vader and the Smoking Jawa!
Great strip today folks!
Rod, get working on that ‘tache. I bet you could cobble a Biggs costume together. After all, that’s what they did on the original film!
Did I ever tell you how Johnny got an official Jango fett outfit? Typical overpriced, cheap quality. The clear plastic packaging for the helmet looked like another helmet and was more durable plastic. We stuck the two halves together, painted them and voila: a free Boba helmet!
In your face George – with your crappy overpriced merchandise!
OMG new punchline.
I had to read all four panels a few times to make sure that I wasn’t hallucinating (yeah, I am back to read it again two days in a row–but it’s okay, I vote on TWC a lot, so it’s not like I am some kind of creepy stalker or anything–what are you wearing right now anyway?)
Just underwear right now. You?
a collar? (meow)
Oh yeah… and… (creepy stalker’s back)
Pleeeeeezzzz puh–puh–puhleeee..eeeeez meka poster of Smoking Lea doing the KB thing on GL. I wants one for mah room! Haz monee.
Email me at bluemilkspecial@gmail.com and we’ll set you up with one. What size?
Love it! I feel so proud. 😀
BMS Vader with his coffee cup and New Hope Leia with her pink phone. Or the X-wing Biggs, I like that idea too.
Or smoking Jawa carrying two bottles of blue milk and Anut Beru?
Or ANH Luke and Leia but you have to spend the whole night snogging and wierd people out!
LOL at the last one. Almost worth doing it for their reactions!
Both in orange spandex, hold hands, cloud car!
Orange spandex may not hide my package too well at a family show! Brilliant concept though!
For a recent SF convention, I had a black cape, and a Darth Vader mask to which I affixed a fright wig and a red nose. I called it a generic character from the Clown Wars. I got feedback later from a friends kid (who didnt know it was me) about the silly costume she had seen earlier. At least it was memorable.
LOL. Any photos?
Get a big box and make a gonk costume.
You should go as darth vader holding a coffee. WIN.
Yep, pulled an Old Lucas stunt on us readers. But in this case, the change in the last line I think is an improvement. Yeah I can see BMS Obiwan at a gogo bar.
Is R2 beeping in space? NO sound in space, but no one ever said anything about the star wars universe space. lol
Oh, there is definitely sound in the Star Wars universe space, which means there is a lot of air in Star Wars Universe space too… so perhaps TK8008 floating around outside the Super Star Destroyer to catch Vader’s wasp isn’t so far fetched! 😉
What about seismic charges? LOL. Talk about thumbing your nose at the “no sound in spacer-s”. Having said that, it was the best bit of AotC.
Apparently Stormtroopers can survive in Space for a few minutes in those suits. According to the SW Illustrated encyclopaedia.
making cheap but awesome star wars costumes is easy…when me and my wife got married we had a star wars themed wedding with out spending alot on costumes but they ended up looking good
